OC researchers, students and staff from any discipline are invited to join the Kelowna Homelessness Research Collaborative’s third workshop as part of the Homelessness Vulnerabilities and Potential Mitigating Supports series.

Held virtually on October 20 from 4 to 7 p.m., Collaborative members and Okanagan College School of Business professors Dr. Kyleen Myrah and Kerry Rempel extend the invitation to anyone who is thinking that they might want to do a project or research related to homelessness. This is the final phase of a year-long study.

 “This third phase is open to any department or field of study,” says Rempel. “It’s a dynamic and interdisciplinary call for researchers with opportunities for funding and coaching.”

Rempel gives examples of potential research projects: “Someone could conduct a project through their Trades and Apprenticeship program, looking at technical solutions for housing. An instructor or student in the Human Service Work area could work with a local organization to conduct community-engaged research on interventions. The possibilities are endless.”

Phase One and Two brought rich perspectives from service providers and people with lived or at-risk experience of homelessness. Phase Three will bring together both researchers and potential sector partners to present research findings, explore ways to collaborate and identify future research projects relevant and responsive to the community.
