Who we are

Okanagan College encourages students to get involved in recreational activities both on and off campus. Okanagan College emphasizes sport and fitness activities as a vital component of a successful, rewarding and enjoyable college experience. We invite students to participate, meet people, have fun, play and be active!

Campus Recreation enhances the quality of student life by offering a wide variety of recreational activities, programs and events. These activities, programs and events are provided free or at a nominal charge to Okanagan College students.

Facilities and Programming

Fitness Facility

The Fitness Facility offers a bright and upbeat atmosphere and an excellent assortment of cardio and resistance training equipment. Cardio users will enjoy the opportunity to look outside while they work-out. Beginners to intermediate weight room users will find that the fitness facility will more than adequately fulfill their exercise needs.

When the Fitness Facility is up and running again, Okanagan College students can purchase a pass online.  Please allow two business days for processing then come to the Athletics, Recreation and Student Life office at S108 to collect your card. It is a one-time $10 fee for a card and automatically renews each semester you are registered in classes. All fitness facility members are required to fill out a yearly PAR-Q and a Release and Waiver of Liability Membership Form. Students under 19 years can purchase a card from the Registrar's Office in the Student Service Building and will require parental or guardian signatures.

    Outdoor Fitness

    Okanagan College has permanent outdoor fitness equipment on the south side of the Health building. Designed for movement, a quick drop in or a break from your day, feel free to use the outdoor training equipment at your leisure. There are also walking paths throughout campus, refer to the map below for locations and distances.

    Fitness Classes and Swimming

    In partnership with Global Fitness and B-Indoor Cycle and Strength Studios, Okanagan College is pleased to provide free group fitness classes for students at this facility between September to April. We also offer free swimming passes to Parkinson Recreation Centre.

    Please visit the Athletics, Recreation and Student Life office (S108) with your student card for more info on how you can access these passes.

    Online Sign Up

    OC typically holds intramurals and activities, which consist of various sport leagues and outings which are recreational and non-competitive. Stay tuned for details for fall 2020.

    Co-Ed Volleyball

    Thursdays, 6-10 p.m. at Parkinson Recreation Centre with a cost of $25.00 per person.

    Urban Rec League Co-Ed Indoor Soccer

    Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 7-11 p.m. at Valley First Soccer Dome.

    Urban Rec League Dodgeball

    Tuesdays, 6-10 p.m. at École De L'Anse-Au-Sable

    Jim Pattison Centre of Excellence Gymnasium and Fitness Centre

    The Jim Pattison Centre of Excellence gymnasium and fitness centre is open for students and staff who hold an access card. Purchase your pass at the administration office for $10.00 and bring your receipt to PC 146 for processing, or drop by if you have any questions.

    Personal Training and Orientation

    A personal trainer can design a program best suited to help you achieve your fitness goals. Personal programs costs $75.00 for students and $150.00 for staff and include three sessions. If you would prefer to learn to use the equipment in a group setting with no more than four people, consider booking an appointment for a weight room orientation.

    Entry-Level Exercise

     If you've never exercised in a fitness facility before and would like some instructions on how to get started, this is the class for you.  We'll close the facility to all other users and have you and others who are just learning as well feel more comfortable while learning.

    Partner Up for Less Stress

    Overall wellness is increased through participation in physical exercise.  If you're looking for someone to play sports, go for a walk, or workout in the fitness center with, sign up for this program and we'll do our best to connect you with others who share the same fitness interests as you. See the staff in PC 146 to sign up.

    Workout Wednesdays

    Come to the gym for a workout, enter your name for an amazing prize and leave your workout feeling great about your accomplishment.

    Flourish with Yoga

    This beginner yoga class will help foster your mind and body connection through gentle stretches and relaxation, reducing stress and improving your wellbeing. As part of the Flourish Wellness Project, classes are offered free of charge on a drop-in basis and are open to all OC students and employees. Yoga mats provided or bring your own.

    Get active

    Making time for physical activity on a regular basis has a number of physical and mental health benefits. The Vernon campus has a Fitness Centre featuring several exercise machines and workout equipment. Hours of operation are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. from Monday through Thursday. Stop by Vernon Administration (A Building) for access; cost is a one-time $10 fee for ongoing access via Salto card.

    The Greater Vernon Athletics Park adjacent to the campus is operated by the City of Vernon. The synthetic running track is open to walkers and runners from dawn to dusk, and is free to use.
