Flags lowered in memory of Mark McLean

OC Remembers represents obituaries and celebrations of life for members of our community who have passed away.

Flags at the Kelowna campus have been lowered in memory of Mark McLean, a long-time facilities employee, who died recently.

Mark began work with Okanagan College as part of the Facilities and Business Services team in 1992. He came to the College following a career with the Vancouver School District and with Building Service Worker training, led the FBS team through many projects, including restorative floor refinishing and annual exam and convocation set-up. He transferred to the Vernon campus and became the daytime custodian for several years before returning to Kelowna and fulfilling the role of Facility Service Assistant until his retirement in 2017.

Manager of Property and Custodial Services Graham Kershaw worked closely with Mark and fondly remembers him. “He was a hard working man, possessed a rare pride of ownership and had true respect for both OUC and OC. All of us will remember his happy honest nature.”

Facilities and Business Services Coordinator Nicole Robertson also remembers Mark’s smile. “He was always more than willing to help anytime he was asked. He had a wonderful sense of humour.”

A  date has not yet been set to commemorate Mark’s life. Watch College Matters for updates.
