On Jan. 17, 2022, B.C.’s Provincial Health Officer (PHO) updated orders relating to gatherings and events, as well as food and liquor serving premises. Key points:

  • There are no expiration dates for these orders.
  • Gyms and fitness centres to begin gradual reopening with capacity limits on January 20, 2022.
  • Bars and nightclubs that do not have full meal services continue to be closed until further notice.
  • These orders will be reviewed by the PHO by February 16, 2022.

Important note: OC's fitness facility in Penticton opened today (Jan. 20) to both staff and students. The Kelowna fitness facility will reopen on Monday, Jan. 26 to students only due to space constraints.

In addition, the PHO also released changes to orders affecting those in K-12 school settings. Ministry advice has been clear that the order does not apply to post-secondary students or instructors participating in K-12 practicums.
