Rosalind Warner poses with the book cover of Canada and Great Power Competition

The analysis of the pandemic has begun, and Okanagan College's Rosalind Warner is among academic experts beginning to assess the government response.

Canada and Great Power Competition was published by Palgrave Macmillan in September including a series of articles and scholarship by Canadian and international academics who study international affairs and Canada's place in the world. The audience is expected to be those who study foreign, security, development and economic policy.

As part of the publication, OC Political Science Professor Rosalind Warner supplied one chapter.

"Disaster Risk Governance as a Guide to Canadian Policy Responses to a Global Health Emergency" analyzes the governance challenges of responding to a global health emergency, elaborating on the roles of hazards, risks and vulnerabilities in facilitating cooperating and aggravating competition.

"This work brings forward the important message that Canada will remain vulnerable to global pandemics for the foreseeable future. Preparing for the worst doesn't necessarily mean building from the ground up, as there is an established framework for disaster preparedness already in place at the global level which can be deployed to address such health emergencies in the future. Canada can do more to protect and preserve lives as part of a global community rather than acting alone," said Warner.
