Memorial Award created in memory of Steve Dahnert

OC Remembers represents obituaries and celebrations of life for members of our community who have passed away.

Flags at the Penticton campus were lowered recently in memory of Steve Dahnert, a long-time OC Trades and Apprenticeship instructor who passed away on October 12 in a motor vehicle accident.

Steve began teaching in the Electrical Trades department in July of 2006. He shared his knowledge and passion for the trade with countless students over the past 14 years.

“We were deeply saddened to hear the news about Steve’s sudden passing. He had so many great skills, brought amazing energy to the campus and passionate about sharing his knowledge with everyone. He will be greatly missed on the Penticton campus,” notes Regional Dean Eric Corneau.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with Steve’s family at this tragic time. Steve’s passion, commitment and dedication to his craft have impacted hundreds of Apprentices over the years. It was evident he loved his job and his infectious sense of humor will be remembered fondly and missed by students and staff in the Electrical Department, Trades and Apprenticeship and the broader Okanagan College community,” said Steve Moores, Dean of Trades and Apprenticeship.

“Steve and I were hired at nearly the same time. We worked together for many years, and I was lucky enough to call him a friend as well as a colleague. Steve was always enthusiastic about teaching students and apprentices, and anyone who walked into his shop or classroom could tell that Steve loved gadgets, tools, and teaching. The whole Electrical Department is grieving the loss of one of our own today, and we would like to express our condolences to Steve’s wife and his family. Steve was like a brother to us all, and he will be missed,” said Claudio DiBiase, instructor and Chair of the Electrical Trades department.
