Meet Lucas Griffin

Lucas Griffin
Lucas Griffin graduated with distinction from the Bachelor of Business Administration degree program in 2000

What did you take at OC/OUC? When did you graduate?

I took my Bachelor of Business Administration degree and graduated with distinction in 2000 from OUC.

Where are you from and where are you now?

I was born and raised in West Kelowna and still live there! My wife, family and I have travelled all over the world, and the more we travel, the more we realize that the Okanagan is an amazing place to live!

Who was your biggest influence during your time at OC?

The professors and faculty were all so amazing.  I was privileged to learn from Rick Appleby, David Cram, Blair Baldwin, Randy Newton, Jim Burns, Jayne Brooks, John Pankratz, and many other phenomenal people! They made business both interesting and fun – most of the time!

Tell us about your current position.

I am the Owner, Founder, and President of Secure-Rite Mobile Storage Inc.
(
www.Secure-Rite.com), which we launched in March 2005. We rent, sell, and modify shipping containers from five corporate locations across B.C. and Alberta.

Do you do any volunteer/charity work?

Tons. One of Secure-Rite’s core values is community. We donate a lot of time, money, and product to a wide variety of non-profit organizations in the cities we serve. We believe in “prosperity for purpose” and try to give back to the communities and cities we serve. You can also check out our profile at Do Some Good.

Personally, I volunteer a lot of time in various Children & Youth Programs through my church and play a role in our Church Leadership as well.

When you’re not working, what are you doing?

I spend a lot of time with my wife and five children. We are a very active family that loves to travel, camp, hike, play team sports, and be together. My personal hobbies are landscaping, building, sports, and woodworking. We are also very involved in our church and various outreach programs associated with it.

Have you won any awards or received recognition?

Secure-Rite has been fortunate to be a proud recipient of the following awards:

  • 2007 – Rising Star Award (Kelowna Chamber of Commerce’s Business Excellence Awards)
  • 2013 – Small Business of the Year Award (Kelowna Chamber of Commerce’s Business Excellence Awards)
  • 2018 – Corporate Community of the Year Award – Small Business (City of Kelowna Civic Awards)
  • 2020 – Mid-Size Business of the Year Award (Kelowna Chamber of Commerce’s Business Excellence Awards)

Secure-Rite is a proud finalist of the following awards:

  • 2020 – Best Sales Centre in BC – CHBA Georgie Awards
  • 2020 – Ethics in Business (Kelowna Chamber of Commerce’s Business Excellence Awards)

What advice would you pass on to current/future students?

Stay humble and be life-long learners. As soon as you think you have arrived or that you know it all, you are doomed to fail. Read books like The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People by Steven Covey, The Infinite Game by Simon Sinek, Traction by Gino Wickman, and many others. Attend seminars on a regular basis, join a mastermind group, and enroll in courses. Always be learning AND apply what you learn!
