My journey to teaching mathematics in the department of Adult Upgrading didn’t follow a straight line. After graduating with a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Calgary, I worked and travelled and then returned to school with the plans of becoming a primary school teacher. I loved studying at the University of Victoria and living on Vancouver Island, but the need to find full-time work brought me back to my home town of Salmon Arm and I’ve been in the Shuswap ever since. I began work at Okanagan College in 1995 – taking a job as an administrative clerk - and finally found my way back to teaching in 2001. Recognizing I needed to learn more about the world of teaching adults, I returned to the University of Calgary to complete a Masters in Education (Adult and Community Education). After six years as Associate Dean in the Arts & Foundational Programs portfolio, I’ve recently returned to the classroom and am thrilled to be back working on a daily basis with students.
