Ensuring students know support is available

Student writing on paper with text overlaid saying we want you to succeed

Given that COVID-19 has brought a fall semester unlike any other, we need to recognize students may be feeling anxious, disappointed or uncertain about their studies – particularly those new to OC or post-secondary.

With that in mind, the College is being proactive in ensuring that all students know that that their OC community is here to help.
We are distributing supportive messages to students to connect them with services and supports available to ensure their success. Channels include:

  • Direct email to all new students
  • Sharing graphics and information with faculty for posting in chat areas during classes
  • Moodle posts to pop up when students log in
  • Sharing on OC’s social media channels
  • Print materials for distribution to campus sites that are open and seeing students
    • RDOs
    • Bookstores
    • Libraries
    • Labs/shops

The College will also be sharing these graphics and key messages with the OCSU and Vernon Students’ Association to disseminate as they choose.

Thank you in advance for the work you are doing to provide our students with an outstanding experience this semester. If you have any questions or feedback on how we can better communicate to students the supports available to them, or otherwise enhance their experience this fall, I would welcome and appreciate your feedback.
