Distance Education

Exams

All Distance Education midterm and final exams are supervised and take place on campus. Where students write their exams is dependent on their mailing address that Okanagan College has on file. Please carefully read the information below to find out where to write your exams and familiarize yourself with policies and procedures.

The Winter 2024 final exam period is April 16-24, 2024 and the schedule is posted below under the 'Distance Education exam schedules'.

NO LATE STARTS

In order to facilitate a timely start to exams and limit disruptions, students are asked to arrive 15 minutes prior to the start of the exam to go through the check-in process. Students are not permitted to enter an exam room once the exam session is in progress.

HARD-COPY PHOTO ID IS REQUIRED

Valid hard-copy photo identification (Government photo ID or Okanagan College student card) is required to write your exam. Note that a picture of ID on a phone is not considered valid. If you do not bring valid photo identification, you will not be permitted to write your exam.

COMPUTER-BASED EXAMS

Know your Moodle login information – you will need this to log into the lab computers and Moodle. For important info about logging in, visit the "Login instructions" section of the Distance Education Student Handbook. Please note that you may require your phone for your Distance Education exam solely for the purpose of multi-factor authentication when logging into an OC lab computer. After authenticating, please store your phone with your other belongings for the duration of the exam. Your phone is not permitted once you have used it for authentication purposes.

If you are feeling ill, please visit the COVID-19 information page for direction.

Please read all exam information carefully and familiarize yourself with dates, policies and other documents.

Where to Write Document

Your exam is scheduled based on your mailing address that Okanagan College has on file. Refer to the "Where to Write" document above to determine where to write your exam. If you intend to write your midterm or final exam at an Okanagan College campus that does not correspond with your mailing address, you must notify Distance Education at least two weeks prior to your exam date.

Request for Supervision of Exam Form - This is now an online form.

If you are writing your examination outside of the Okanagan region, it is expected that you arrange to write your exam with a qualified invigilator (refer to the above "Where to Write" document for examples of qualified invigilators). You are expected to arrange to write your exam according to the Distance Education exam schedule. Request for Supervision of Exam forms must be submitted a minimum of three weeks before your exam date.

Exam periods for Distance Education academic courses can be found under the “Important Dates” section here

If you have an exam conflict (two or more exams scheduled at the same time or three exams within a 24-hour period), please send an e-mail to exams@okanagan.bc.ca and include your name, student number and exam conflict information. Your conflict will be reviewed by Distance Education and you will be sent an updated exam schedule by email.

Distance Education Out-of-Time Examination Policy

Request for Out-of-Time Exam Form

In the event of exceptional circumstances, students may apply to write an examination at a time other than the scheduled time. These examinations are referred to as out-of-time examinations. The policy for out of time examinations can be found at the link above. Please be advised that travel plans are not a valid reason for writing an out-of-time exam. As such, it is essential that you do not make travel plans prior to the exam schedule being posted.

Out-of-time request forms must be submitted three weeks prior to examination dates.

Campus maps for each campus are available on the OC website.

Parking information for each Okanagan College campus can be found here.
