What are the admission requirements for Foundation intakes?
In order to be admitted to a Foundation or Pre-Apprenticeship program, you must meet a Math and English requirement. Please use the below link to view your program's requirements.

How will I know my application has been received?
You will be notified by the Admissions office via email once your application has been received. After your application has been processed (5-10 business days), your application status can be checked through your MyOkanagan account.

To access your MyOkanagan account:

  • Login to MyOkanagan at http://myokanagan.bc.ca. Your username is your student number and your password is your birthdate (mmddyyyy).
  • Application status can be checked under Applicant>View My Applications
Any further communication regarding your application will be handled via email. Please check your MyOkanagan account to ensure your most current email address is on file.

What do I do if I don’t meet the admission requirements for my program?
The Admissions staff will assess your transcript for meeting English and Math requirements or recommend testing. If you are unable to meet the admission requirements for your program or it has been more than seven years since you have completed the required math, you would be required to write the ABLE Math and/or English test. Instructions on booking an ABLE test and a copy of a sample test can be found on the left-hand tool bar under Trades ABLE Test.

How does the waitlist process work?
Waitlists for Foundation programs are monitored through the Admissions office which can be contacted at 250-762-5445 ext. 5417 or admissions@okanagan.bc.ca.

How do I accept my offer of admission?
Your offer can be accepted through your MyOkanagan account. You will be contacted by email when an offer is sent out. It will also appear in your MyOkanagan account.

To access your MyOkanagan account:

  • Login to MyOkanagan at http://myokanagan.bc.ca. Your username is your student number and your password is your birthdate (mmddyyyy).
Please ensure, once you have accepted your offer, that you pay your two $200 non-refundable deposits by the specified deadlines.

When is my tuition due?

What type of funding is available for my Foundation program?
There are several types of funding available for your Foundation program. For information on financial aid, awards, grants, and student loans, please visit Financial Aid and Awards.

If you are currently working in the trade and your employer would like you to take the Foundation program, please see the below information on the LNG Canada Trades Training Fund.

  • Applications can be found under Important Documents and Information
  • Offered for apprentices currently working in high-demand trades
  • Your employer must apply on your behalf at least one month before the start of class
  • Your company must have 20 employees or less
  • If approved, tuition and/or textbooks fees will be covered

What happens if I am unable to attend my intake and need to withdraw?For information on withdrawing from your Foundation program please see the Tuition Refund Policy. Please notify your instructor and the Trades Office if you are withdrawing from your program.

Where can I find my textbooks and supply list for my intake?
A textbook and supply list can be found in the Textbooks, Supplies, and More section on the left-hand toolbar under Foundation Programs. Please note that the lists and prices are subject to change. Textbooks can be purchased at the Bookstore

Where can I purchase a parking pass?
Parking passes can be purchased at the Registrar’s Office (S Building) on the Kelowna campus, at the Administration Office in the Ashnola building (PL 133) on the Penticton campus, and at the Administration Office at the Vernon campus. Parking passes are not required at the Salmon Arm campus. A campus map for Kelowna and Penticton can be found in the Campus Maps and Parking Documents section under Important Documents and Information.

How do I receive my T2202A form?
Your T2202A form can be found through your MyOkanagan account on the last day of February.

To access your T220A:

  • Login to MyOkanagan at http://myokanagan.bc.ca. Your username is your student number and your password is your birthdate (mmddyyyy).
  • Click the “T2202A Tax Form” link under Online Services

Who do I contact if I need tutoring and/or extra support?
If you require tutoring and/or extra support, the Trades Success Centre offers services geared towards trades students who require assistance with any area of their studies, including math, writing, learning strategies, study skills, and other areas where they might be struggling. The Trades Success Centre is open Monday to Thursday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m to 4 p.m. For more information or to make an appointment please contact Elke at 250-762-5445 ext. 4677 or epritchard@okanagan.bc.ca.

Who do I contact if I require accommodations (i.e. reader, sign language interpreter, time extension, private sitting, etc.) for my intake?
Okanagan College strives to make all learning experiences as accessible as possible. If you anticipate or experience disability related academic barriers (including mental health, chronic or temporary medical conditions), and require accommodations (i.e. reader, sign language interpreter , time extension, private sitting, etc.) please contact Accessibility Services at your campus so that you can privately discuss options. 

If you are in a level of technical training that requires the completion of an ITA exam and you require academic accommodations, contact your Accessibility Services Coordinator at the start of your course to initiate the accommodation process with the ITA. ITA Exam Accommodation forms can be found in the Industry Training Authority Forms section under Important Documents and Information.

What do I need in order to write my ITA exam?
If your class writes an ITA exam at the end of the intake, you need to ensure that you are currently registered as an apprentice with the ITA or you may be unable to write. You also need to ensure that, on the day of the exam, you have valid, current Government issued photo ID such as a Provincial Driver’s License, Provincial Identification Card, Passport, BC Services Card, Combination Driver’s License and BC Services Card, Canadian Permanent Residency Card, Canadian Certificate of Indian Status, or Nexus Card. If you do not have valid, current Government issued photo ID you will not be able to write the exam.

How do I reschedule my ITA exam if I was unable to write or was unsuccessful?
Okanagan College can only reschedule your ITA exam if you are currently in class and unable to write your class exam. If your intake has finished and you were unable to write or unsuccessful you will need to contact the ITA at 1-866-660-6011 to schedule your exam.

My course is listed as Harmonized. What does that mean?
The Canadian Council of Directors of Apprenticeship (CCDA) is currently undertaking the Harmonization Initiative in 30 Red Seal Trades by 2020. As British Columbia is an active participant in this initiative, several trades are currently undergoing harmonization. The goal of harmonization is to substantively align apprenticeship systems across Canada by making the apprenticeship training requirements more consistent in the Red Seal trades. If your trade is currently undergoing Harmonization more information can be found at www.itabc.ca or you can contact our office at

What are my options for accommodation/housing?
There are several options for accommodation and housing while you are attending your technical training. Skaha Residence is located on the Kelowna campus and offers Pods and Private Studio Suites. The residence has a tendency to fill up in September and January for the academic year. However, during mid-semester and summer they do have some unexpected vacancies. Applications can be completed online through your MyOkanagan account.  ​

Okanagan College also has an accommodation website that lists rentals by community members specifically catered towards students. There are listings for the KelownaPenticton, Vernon, and Salmon Arm campuses.

What happens if I am unsuccessful in my course?
If you are unsuccessful in your course, there are several options that are available to you. With the skills you have learned in your program, you can start working in the trade and complete the Level 1 technical training portion of your trade as an apprentice. For more information on Apprenticeship programs please see the left hand tool bar. Another option is to retake the Foundation program. You may also be able to challenge your Level 1 technical training through the Industry Training Authority (ITA) at 1-866-660-6011 or www.itabc.ca.

When can I find out who my instructor is and which room I will be starting in?
Instructors and room numbers are not assigned to intakes until several weeks before the start of class. A list of intakes, room numbers, and instructors will be posted outside the Trades and Apprenticeship Office the first day of class. You will also be mailed a Welcome Letter a month before the start of your class that will contain information on start time, room number, supplies, etc.

What do I need to do if I want someone else to be able to find out information about my course, dates, waitlist, etc.?
In accordance with British Columbia's Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIPPA), you must complete a Consent to Release Information form through your MyOkanagan account in order for anyone other than you (family member, significant other, employer, etc.) to be able to find out information about your course.

If there is no Consent to Release Information form on file for the person making the inquiry we will not release any information to him or her. 

To add someone to your Consent to Release Information:

  • Login to MyOkanagan at http://myokanagan.bc.ca. Your username is your student number and your password is your birthdate (mmddyyyy).
  • Consent to Release Information can be found under the Student tab in the bottom right had corner.
