Automotive Service Technician (AST) Apprenticeship

Automotive Service Technician is a person who examines, tests and repairs the parts and systems on cars and light trucks. They often use computerized diagnostic equipment to test, adjust and repair key vehicle components such as engines, steering systems, braking systems, drive trains, vehicle suspensions and electrical systems. Apprentices are required to attend a total of 26  weeks of technical training in this 4 year apprenticeship.

The Canadian Council of Directors of Apprenticeship is currently undertaking the Harmonization Initiative in 30 Red Seal Trades by 2020. British Columbia is an active participant in this initiative. The goal of Harmonization is to substantively align apprenticeship systems across Canada by making the apprenticeship training requirements more consistent in the Red Seal trades. Successful completion grants the apprentice with the Certificate of Qualification as a Red Seal Automotive Service Technician.

Achieving your Red Seal Endorsement (RSE) will provide you with a set of nationally recognized and transferable skills that will provide you with an opportunity for employment across Canada.
