Heavy Mechanical Trades

Description

This information is intended to explain the  “Heavy Mechanical” training model.  This new training model will affect apprentices registered in one of the following trades: Heavy Duty Equipment Technician (Red Seal), Truck and Transport Mechanic (Red Seal), Diesel Engine Mechanic (CoQ) and Transport Trailer Technician (Red Seal).

The Industry Training Authority has approved a new combined training model for these four trades.  The following describes the technical training requirements.

Apprentices will complete 10 weeks for level 1, 8 weeks for level 2, 6 weeks for level 3 and 4 weeks for level 4 of technical training.

Note:
Apprentices who have completed the old foundation program will need to begin the new level 1 program.

Please note that apprentices who began their training in the old 6 week model for levels 1, 2, 3 & 4 will finish in the old model.

This new combined training model will allow apprentices more flexibility and opportunity for multiple credentials.

If you have any questions about this new process please do not hesitate to contact our office at 1-800-621-3038.
