Internal Funding and Support

The College’s annual Employee Excellence Awards also recognize achievements in Scholarly Activity.
Professional Development funds may be available to promote teaching excellence, subject area competence and technical competence in an area of professional or instructional expertise. PD funds may be available for continuing employees and term employees with right of accrual. Term employees must apply for professional development funding while on active contract. The PD Committee meets regularly throughout the academic year. Check MyOkanagan->Faculty tab->OCExpress -- Forms->Professional Development/Training->Faculty -- Professional Development (PD) Guidelines for details on how to apply. Retroactive applications are not normally accepted. Also check the Human Resources website.
Research, scholarly and creative activity are also supported by the Grants-in-Aid fund. Any OC employee who is a member of the Okanagan College Faculty Association (OCFA) shall be eligible to apply for GIA funding. This includes continuing and term (full time or part time) employees. Term employees must apply for Grant-in-Aid funding while on active contract. You can also find them under:
Expenses must be incurred between May 16 of one year and May 15 of the following year (the application year). The expenses cannot be of the type for which reimbursement is otherwise available from Travel Allowances, Professional Development or the Grants-In-Aid Fund. Allowable expenses include, but are not limited to, professional dues, subscriptions to scholarly journals, books, computer software, and computer or other equipment.
Faculty may apply to their Dean or Director for release from one or more sections of teaching to pursue scholarly or creative activities. Generally, a call for applications for will be sent annually from the Dean’s office via email.
Extended Study Leave
A faculty member who has been on a on a continuing appointment for five or more years is eligible to apply for an Extended Study Leave (Article 28). Faculty who converted into a continuing position from a term position are eligible after four or more years as continuing. Email: ExtendedStudyLeave@okanagan.bc.ca
External Funding and OpportunitiesMitacs Globalink Research Internship (GRI). GRI pairs faculty in Canada with international undergrads for 12-week research projects from May to September.
