Medical Insurance & Coverage

Okanagan College requires that all international students have valid medical coverage for the duration of their studies.

  •  Medical cards will be sent electronically to your myOkanagan account. 

  • All new international & exchange students are automatically enrolled with ‘Bridge Coverage’ for 3 months + ~ 5 days before start of semester

  • Returning students are automatically re-enrolled with if opt-out or proof of MSP has not been received. 

  • Cost to student is $2/day charged to student account

  • Short term students and those without a study permit will remain on coverage for duration of studies

  • Early arrivals can purchase additional coverage online for up to 1 month before semester start.

  • Dependent spouse & children can be included in coverage

Medical Services Plan (MSP)

  • For students with a study permit who will study for 1 year or more

  • Apply online soon after you arrive in Canada at the Orientation sessions – processing takes about 1 month

  • Coverage starts after a 3 month wait period

  • Monthly premiums determined by BC government and billed directly to students to your local home address

  • Continuous coverage while on Study Permit / Post Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) and beyond

 Extended Health and Dental Plan

  • Administered by your Student Union office (OCSU or VSAOC in Vernon)
  • Enrollment and fees are mandatory for all full time academic students

  • Mandatory additional coverage (Green Shield/ Great-West Life)

  • Online Opt-out is available if you are covered by an equivalent plan (such as by your employer).

  • or MSP do not replace the Extended Health & Dental Plan.
