Long running golf tournament aids Trades at Okanagan College
Okanagan College Media Release

Golfers can turn their scorecards into meaningful support for Okanagan College students next month when one of the longest running tournaments in the region swings into action.

The Okanagan College Foundation/Western Financial Group Annual Charity Golf Tournament takes place Thursday, May 23 at the Bear and Quail courses of the Okanagan Golf Club.

This year’s tournament gives players a chance to not only hit the green, but also bone up on their knowledge of the trades with the Collision Repair Department setting up their paint simulation booth for a contest, plus delicious food prepared by the Culinary Arts department.

“With the $33-million expansion and renovation of the trades training facilities at the Kelowna campus, we thought it made sense to bring the trades to the green this year,” said Kathy Butler, Executive Director of the Okanagan College Foundation.

Now in its 22nd year, the tournament has raised more than $250,000 for scholarships, bursaries and program support all of which helps students, especially today, Butler said.

“Students are always struggling with tight budgets, but with the job market for young people being what it is, everything helps,” said Kathy Butler, Executive Director of Okanagan College Foundation. “This golf tournament plays a vital role in raising funds that help students throughout the year so that they can continue with their education without the extra stresses of financial worries, as much as is possible.”

Registration for the tournament is now open at www.okanagan.bc.ca/foundation.

Along with Western Financial Group, sponsors for this year’s tournament include PCL Construction and the Kelowna Capital News.
