Okanagan College has developed a policy to inform students, employees and visitors about the College’s position on cannabis use on campus effective Oct. 17, 2018, when federal legislation allows the legal purchase and use of cannabis under the Cannabis Act.
Per the policy:
- The use of cannabis on College campuses and at events under the control of the College is prohibited, except for medicinal use as authorized by a qualified physician.
- Smoking cannabis for medicinal purposes is restricted to areas designated by the College. Smoking includes consumption of cannabis with cigarettes, pipes, vaping or other similar devices. Users of medicinal cannabis must provide evidence to support the medical use of cannabis when requested.
- The cultivation of cannabis on College property is prohibited, unless authorized for academic purposes by the Regional Dean for that campus and the Vice President, Education.
- The promotion, advertising, or sale of any cannabis product or service on College property is prohibited, unless authorized for academic purposes by the Vice President, Education.
