Negotiations Update

Okanagan College has negotiated contracts with three different unions:

  • the BC Government and Service Employees' Union representing support staff
  • the BC Government and Service Employees' Union representing vocational instructors
  • the Okanagan College Faculty Association

The College also has policies government terms, conditions and working conditions for Senior Managers, Excluded Staff and Administrators.

The three negotiated contracts are due to expire in 2019. This page is the site for College updates - as required - relating to those negotiations.


Updates

April 11, 2019 - Okanagan College and its BCGEU Vocational Instructors have reached a tentative agreement consistent with the 2019 Sustainable Services Negotiating Mandate for the provincial public sector.

Union members were notified this week of the three-year agreement, which came in late March. Approximately 350 people are covered by the tentative agreement that was negotiated as part of the BCGEU Faculty Common Agreement covering five institutions in the sector.
The specific terms of the settlement will remain confidential until all the parties have ratified their respective agreements, as well as the Post-Secondary Employers’ Association (PSEA) board.
The settlement is and in accordance with the 2019 PSEA Sectoral bargaining plan.

Dec. 19, 2018 - Local negotiations between Okanagan College and the BCGEU Vocational Instructors commenced on Dec. 12 and continue. Updates will be provided as developments warrant.

Nov. 2, 2018 - Tentative memorandum of settlement reached by five post-secondary institutions

A tentative provincial memorandum of settlement (MOS) has been reached for the Faculty Common Agreement at five post-secondary institutions, including Okanagan College, paving the way for local collective agreements to be freely negotiated. 
The employer bargaining agent, the Post-Secondary Employers’ Association and parties to the BCGEU Faculty Common Agreement have reached a MOS, which forms the foundation for five individual collective agreements to be locally negotiated between:

  • Camosun College and BCGEU Local 701
  • Coast Mountain College and BCGEU Local 712
  • Northern Lights College and BCGEU Local 710
  • Okanagan College and BCGEU Local 707
  • Selkirk College and BCGEU Local 709

The MOS covers about 1,000 faculty employees including instructors, assistant instructors and technical staff, and is consistent with the 2019 Sustainable Services Negotiating Mandate. Details about the Faculty Common Agreement will remain confidential to the parties as they begin local negotiations over the coming months.
