During Your First Few Days

Benefits: Learn more about Health & Welfare Benefit and Pension Plans, Employee/Family Assistance Program, and leave reporting by reviewing the Benefits pages.

Bookstore: Learn about the many services offered by the OC Bookstore including: textbook ordering information, bookstore and publisher terminology, where to submit textbook adoptions online, and publisher representative information.


Business and Copy Cards: Speak with your department contact to determine if business cards have been ordered for you and to obtain a copy card. Please note, when making 100 copies or more you may wish to make use of OC’s Print Services.


Campus Services, Resources and Facilities: Explore the variety of services and facilities available at OC including: recreation facilities, libraryfood servicesbookstore, and health services.


Computer Systems: Many positions at OC require access to various computer systems such as Banner, FAST, and My Okanagan. Speak with your department contact to determine whether or not you require access to these systems and, if so, whether access has been granted. A helpful reference tool is available for First Time Users of OC’s Internet/Intranet Services.


Copyright and Intellectual Property: Review the Library’s detailed Guide to Copyright practice at OC as well as the Teaching, Learning & Technology Centre Copyright and Intellectual Property website for additional resources regarding copyright law and the impacts on Canadian institutions.


Human Rights and Conflict Resolution: Learn more about harassment, discrimination and human rights issues applicable to students and employees at OC by reviewing your collective agreement and the Appropriate Handbook.


Keys / Proximity Cards: Speak with your department contact to ensure that you receive keys to your office/department and/or a proximity card (as applicable).


Library Services: Learn more about the Faculty Library Card, Library Catalogue and Database Access (WebCat), Faculty Borrowing Policies, and Inter-library Loans by exploring OC’s Library Services website.

In addition, the Library website includes information on Course Reserves, Media Booking, and the Canadian University Reciprocal Borrowing Agreement.


OC Calendar: The OC Calendar is a helpful reference tool for a variety of information including: program admission, fees, student affairs, degree/diploma/certificate program services , OC International and much, much more.


Parking Permit: If you drive to work, speak with your department contact to request a parking permit to park in designated staff parking areas.


Payroll Calendar/Timesheets: Review the Payroll Calendar on My Okanagan for information about OC pay dates, statutory holidays, and the December closure and, if applicable, the procedure for completing and submitting timesheets.


Photo ID: Speak with your department contact regarding the procedure to obtain an OC Identification Card (OC ID).

Policies, Procedures and Collective Agreements: Review the Human Resources pages to determine the policies, procedures and collective agreement provisions that are applicable to you.


Research at OC: The Office of Research Services website includes a wealth of information about a number of subjects including: OC Internal Grants and Awards, OC Research Committees, Research Ethics, Research Funding Links, Application Deadlines, and Student Research.


Teaching at OC: Review the Teaching, Learning and Technology Centre (TLTC) website for information about audiovisual services, online lab bookings, and video conference bookings.

The TLTC also helps faculty integrate technology with their instruction by offering workshops and personal assistance with using WebCT, LearnLinc, My Okanagan, and PowerPoint.


Telephone and Voice Mail: Determine your telephone local and establish your voice mail message. Refer to the Telephone Manuals for your telephone model for instructions how to initialize your voice-mail, change your password and retrieve voice-mail message.

A PIN number is required to make long distance calls. Speak with department contact to determine if long distance access will be provided to you and, if so, to obtain your PIN.
