The Factory Trades Entrances Bursary Honours Carpentry/Joinery Student

Diana Charles of Kelowna is the recipient of the 2015 The Factory Foundation Trades Entrances Bursary. 2015 Factory Bursary

The award was presented by Laura Cruse of V6B Design Group, on behalf of The Factory at a busy Downtown After Five event hosted by The Factory at their beautiful office and functional showroom/gallery space on St. Paul Street in downtown Kelowna.

Charles enrolled in the Carpentry/Joinery program as a mature student and hopes to use her training to launch a career in joinery, design,  and business, in the Okanagan's growing residential and commercial design/construction/finishing industries.

"This award will help me in a way that is unimaginable. It's really hard to put into words," says Charles. "It will allow me to continue the schooling needed to have the strong credentialing needed for this industry and after that is complete, to follow my dreams."

The Factory Foundation Trades Entrances Bursary was launched in June 2013. Charles is the second recipient of the award.

According to Cruse, The Factory established the award in response to the retirements looming in the industries represented by their consortium.

"With retirements looming among the baby boomer trades demographic, we will face a serious lack of quality tradespeople to replace them if we do not support the training and apprenticeship of the next generation," says Cruse. "That is the inspiration and the aim for this award. We are proud to support promising young tradespeople like Diana, who will be assets to our local industry."

The Factory was founded by Bo Snarski, owner of Scandinavian Hardwood Floors, to provide clients with custom, timeless and sustainable products all under one roof in the Okanagan.

Businesses found in The Factory span custom hardwood flooring, award-winning kitchen design and implementation, designer lighting, trend setting bathrooms, sustainable wall finishes, European windows and doors, contemporary sculptures and art, handmade wrought iron artwork, cutting edge sound/home audio/entertainment solutions, and more.
