Car Club gives students tools of the trade

Two Okanagan College students from the Automotive Service Technician (AST) program received a boost to their toolboxes last week.

The Okanagan Mopars Car Club donated two gift certificates valued at $500 each for local automotive tool retailers.

AST students Dallas Holzer and James McLeod were chosen to receive the awards; both were surprised and delighted to learn about this generous gift. Both heartily expressed their gratitude to the Club for its support.dallas holzer

Holzer, originally from Saskatchewan and more recently hailing from the Lower Mainland, moved out to the Okanagan several years ago.

He has now finished his first year and aims to graduate as a 4th year Automotive journeyman in 2018.

A $500 gift card to KMS Tools in Kelowna awaited Holzer when he met with the car club for a photo last week.

Says Holzer: “I really appreciate this scholarship. The tools will be a big help to me in my studies and lessen the costs associated with my apprenticeship training."

"It’s a huge help and I’m very grateful to the Okanagan Mopars Car Club.”

His fellow student, McLeod, who received $500 toward Gilbert Parts Depot in Vernon, said: “I just want to thank the Club again for the Tool Scholarship to Gilberts Auto Parts."

"I am working full time at a local car dealership and the money will go towards filling my tool box.”

Vic Porcher, Vice-President of the Okanagan Mopars Car Club, presented the awards and congratulated the students.

“It was very nice to meet such enthusiastic, polite young men. I’m sure they’ll do well in their future years,” said Porcher.

“Both recipients were very appreciative and very surprised about their awards. We all had a great time with this.”
