Volunteer Literacy Tutoring Program
VOLUNTEER TUTOR PROGRAM
WHO ARE WE? The Volunteer Tutor Program is a one-to-one tutoring program that provides free and confidential tutoring to anyone 19 years and older who would like to work on his or her basic reading, writing, computer, and math skills. Learners are paired with volunteer tutors who build lessons around the learner’s interests and goals.
Tutoring sessions range from 1 hour to 3 hours a week depending on learner and tutor availability. All tutoring sessions must take place in a public space either at Okanagan College, Okanagan Regional Library or another space arranged by the tutor, the program coordinator, and the learner.
WHO CAN USE THE PROGRAM SERVICES? Anyone 19 years and older who wants to improve his or her basic reading, writing, and math skills.
HOW DO I GET TUTORING? Simply call the program coordinator, Megan Shandro at 837-4235, local 6504. Potential learners meet with Megan to discuss the learner’s goals and availability. During a second interview, a reading and writing assessment is completed.
