Adult Academic & Career Preparation

Steps to enrolling in AACP at the Revelstoke Centre

The Adult Academic & Career Preparation (AACP) department of Okanagan College provides upgrading courses from literacy to grade 12 equivalency through its AACP program. These courses are tuition free. Courses are offered at all campuses of OC as well as at the Revelstoke Centre and by Distance Education. For more information regarding the AACP program or for help with applying or registering, contact Claudette Kendel, AACP coordinator, at 837-4235, local 6516.

Here are the steps to follow if you wish to enroll in AACP courses:

  1. Write a skill assessment in English and mathematics if you have been out of high school for more than six years or do not have prerequisite courses. A skill assessment is recommended for all students who have been out of high school for three or more years. The assessment is free of charge. Call 837-4235 for the skill assessment schedule. Please bring a copy of your high school transcript if possible. Your school transcript can be helpful in placing you in appropriate courses.
  2. Assessment results are normally available within 2 to 3 days. Claudette, the AACP coordinator, will telephone you regarding your results and/or arrane an appointment to discuss the most suitable placement.
  3. Apply to become a student. OC Revelstoke Centre has application forms available or you may apply for admission on-line. The application fee is $30. (You may be eligible for reimbursement of this fee.)
  4. Low income students may be eligible for financial assistance. Once you have your skill assessment results and have applied to become an AACP student, you can complete an ABESAP application for funding. These forms are available from Claudette Kendel or Anita Hallewas. Return completed forms to Claudette.
  5. Finally, you will need to register for your classes. See Claudette,, AACP coordinator, to register for courses each semester.

Note: Mathematics and English courses are offered by classroom delivery Monday to Friday mornings. If these times are not suitable, these and other AACP courses may also be taken through self-paced Flex Class at the Revelstoke Centre, which offers more flexibility. If students need additional support, Anita Hallewas, our Volunteer Literacy Tutor Program coordinator can arrange to pair them with volunteer tutors.
