Sheet Metal Worker Apprenticeship Level 1 to 4
Description
Sheet Metal Workers assemble, install and service an extensive range of heating, air conditioning, roofing, restaurant, and hospital equipment. This includes such things as: ducts, pipes, gutters, cabinets, flashings and supporting devices. Sheet Metal Worker is a nationally designated trade under the Inter-provincial Red Seal program.
Sheet Metal Workers also test, balance, and troubleshoot duct systems; and weld, grind and polish metals. They use welding equipment to join sheets of metal and must have knowledge of the specialized welding techniques used for the many different metal alloys they will encounter.
In this 4-year apprenticeship, the apprentice works in industry and attends school for 6 weeks each year. These four 6 week blocks of technical training and 4 years of on the job training will allow the apprentice to progress through the full spectrum of learning required to become a Qualified Sheet Metal Journeyperson.

Post Apprenticeship Employment Opportunities:
Upon completion of the 4 years, the apprentice will be eligible to challenge the Interprovincial Endorsement Exam for Sheet Metal. Successful completion provides the apprentice with the Certificate of Qualification along with the Interprovincial Endorsement or Red Seal.
All of the trades offered at Okanagan College lead to Journeyperson status under the Interprovincial standards (Red Seal) endorsement program. Red Seal certified workers can work anywhere in Canada where their trade is designated. Labour mobility is essential for the Canadian workforce. For skilled tradespeople, the Red Seal is the recognized passport to mobility in trades across Canada.
Fees:
· Each 6 week apprenticeship session is $676.20.
· Students must supply approved safety boots and coveralls.
· Income support for apprentices attending technician-training courses is provided by Human Resources Development Canada (HRDC) through regular employment insurance eligibility. Financial Aid
