Recreational Vehicle Technician Apprenticeship Program

Description

A Recreation Vehicle Service Technician is a person who repairs, maintains, overhauls or modifies live-in recreation vehicles that are designed for travel. They also install and repair:

  • interior components such as appliances, furnaces, refrigerators, water heaters, ranges and air conditioners.
  • exterior components such as siding, windows, doors, vents, plumbing systems, electrical systems, awnings, propane gas systems, batteries and charging systems, trailer braking systems, TV antennas, light plants and hitches.

Recreation Vehicle Service Technicians also perform pre-delivery inspections on motorhomes, holiday trailers, fifth-wheel trailers, truck campers and tent trailers and are involved in fibreglass/body repairs, pinstriping and painting. A Recreation Vehicle Service Technician is designated as a Recreation Vehicle Mechanic under the Inter-provincial Red Seal program.

Generally, Recreational Vehicle Service Technicians do not repair motor or drive train components on motor homes

Admission Requirements

You must be a registered apprentice within BC.

Persons wishing to become apprentices must be employed with a business that employs a journeyperson RV Service Technician.

The Industry Training Centre (ITC) sets up an agreement for apprenticeship between the apprentice, the employer and ITC.

Program Fees:

  • Each 8 week apprenticeship session is $895.72.
  • Students must supply approved safety boots and coveralls.
  • Income support for apprentices attending technician-training courses is provided by Human Resources Development Canada (HRDC) through regular employment insurance eligibility. Financial Aid

Employment Opportunities:

The Recreation Vehicle Service apprentice will write the Interprovincial Examination on the last day of the level 3 technical training.  Successful completion grants the apprentice with the Certificate of Qualification along with the Interprovincial Endorsement (Red Seal).  The Interprovinical Endorsement is recognized across Canada.

All of the trades offered at Okanagan College lead to Journeyperson status under the Interprovincial standards (Red Seal) endorsement program. Red Seal certified workers can work anywhere in Canada where their trade is designated. Labour mobility is essential for the Canadian workforce. For skilled tradespeople, the Red Seal is the recognized passport to mobility in trades across Canada.
