Automotive Service Technician Apprenticeship
Description
"Automotive Service Technician" means a person engaged in the repair, adjustment and replacement of mechanical and electrical parts of automobiles, light trucks and mini-busses. Technicians would be able to diagnose automotive systems, perform routine component replacment and rebuild or adjust a variety of automotive components. A technician would perform these functions on passenger vehicles, light trucks and mini-buses in the following areas: engines, fuel systems, emission control and exhaust systems, brake systems, steering and suspension systems, manual and automatic transmission/transaxles, differentials, drive axles and drivelines, electrical and electronic systems, air conditioning, heating and cooling systems and trim and body hardware. There are 4 Automotive Service Technician Apprenticeship programs.

Each of the above apprenticeship are unique and an apprentice will earn a BC Certificate of Qualification upon successful completion of each program.

Program Outlines:
The duration of Levels1 & 3 is 7 weeks, and Levels 2 & 4 are 6 weeks.

Post Apprenticeship Employment Opportunities:
Upon completion of levels 1, 2, 3 and 4 the apprentice will be eligible to challenge the Interprovincial Endorsement Exam for Automotive Service Technician. Successfull completion provides the apprentice with the Certificate of Qualification along with the Interprovincial Endorsement or Red Seal.
All of the trades offered at Okanagan College lead to Journeyperson status under the Interprovincial standards (Red Seal) endorsement program. Red Seal certified workers can work anywhere in Canada where their trade is designated. Labour mobility is essential for the Canadian workforce. For skilled tradespeople, the Red Seal is the recognized passport to mobility in trades across Canada.
Fees:
- Each 6 week apprenticeship session is $676.20 and the 7 week session is $788.00.
- Students must supply approved safety boots and coveralls.
- Income support for apprentices attending technician-training courses is provided by Human Resources Development Canada (HRDC) through regular employment insurance eligibility. Financial Aid
