Career Facilitator Certificate

If your career goal involves helping others identify and pursue satisfying careers, you’ll want to enrol in Okanagan College’s Career Facilitator certificate program.

This is a professional development opportunity targeted at individuals currently working in related fields. You’ll learn how and why individuals make career choices from a variety of perspectives and review effective career assessment techniques. Adult learning and motivation theories will be explored, along with employment barriers and key caseload management issues.

You will enhance their interpersonal communication and group facilitation skills. You’ll also learn to assess client needs and challenges, whether at work or at home, and how to resolve them either directly or through referral. And you’ll explore a variety of placement models and plans, including the negotiation of contracts. Placement, follow-up, and monitoring strategies will be reviewed.

Because professional development is critical to a career facilitator, fundamental issues such as credentialling, confidentiality, and ethics will be examined. You’ll also learn about labour market research as a career-choice tool.
