Spread the Word

The Department of Communications at Okanagan College is holding a contest to help spread the word about its new Media and Cultural Studies Diploma.
We have an exciting, new program with great profs and we want to help more people understand what’s available at OC.


What Do You Have to Do?

  • Create an 11” x17” poster that helps us spread the word about the Media and Cultural Studies Diploma at OC, or

The only thing that we ask is that all content must be original or rights-free. So that means you can’t use copyrighted material, i.e. songs, photos, audio or moving images that belong to other people, in either your poster or web video.


What Do You Win?

Three great prizes are available for those who we choose to be the best at helping us Spread the Word:

  • 1st place--$1000 tuition voucher for full-time enrollment in OC’s Arts program
  • 2nd place—A Norco Men’s City Glide 3 urban bike, perfect for cruising to school with ($660 retail value, courtesy of our cool friends at Kelowna Cycle)bike

Prizes must be accepted as awarded, are not redeemable for cash and are not transferable.


Who Can Enter?

Anyone who will be attending Okanagan College full-time (five courses or more per semester) in Arts at Okanagan College in the Fall or Winter semester of 2011/2012.
You can enter as often as you like, but each entry must be accompanied by an original work.


How To Enter?

Submissions will be made online. Click here to get to the online registration form.

If you create a poster, attach a pdf or jpeg file of your poster to your online entry form. A file size of 2-3 mb would be perfect.

If you create a web video, post your video on YouTube and make sure you include a link to your video in your online submission form. The bottom line is that the judges have to be able to access your video. If they can’t see it, they can’t judge it.

If you win, we want to be able to contact you, so please fill out the online registration form entirely and double check all phone numbers and e-mail addresses:

Okanagan College will contact finalists for high-resolution versions of their work to be provided on CD or DVD.


How the Contest will be judged

Three professors from the Communications department will be judging entries on the following criteria:

1. Originality
2. Creativity
3. How polished and professional it looks
4. How effective its message is about the Media and Cultural Studies Diploma program


Contest Deadlines

The “Spread The Word” contest will run from October 20, 2010 to midnight November 30, 2010.

Winners will be announced at the awards ceremony at the Kelowna, KLO campus,  December 8 at 7:30 p.m.

Contest Rules and Regulations

Prizes must be accepted as awarded, are not redeemable for cash in whole or in portion and are not transferable.

All entries become property of Okanagan College and will not be returned. Okanagan College assumes no responsibility for lost, stolen, delayed, damaged or misdirected entries during the contest period, for any problems or technical malfunction of any computer online systems, servers, access providers, computer equipment, software, failure of any e-mail or entry to be received by Okanagan College on account of technical problems or traffic congestion on the Internet or at any Web site, or failure of handset or mobile web browser, or any combination thereof including any injury or damage to an entrant's or any other person's computer related to or resulting from this contest. Okanagan College reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to terminate, cancel or suspend this contest at any time. Entries are subject to verification and will be declared invalid if they are illegible, forged, falsified, altered or tampered with in any way. Entrants agree to abide by the contest rules.


By entering the contest, entrants consent to: (a) the use of their names, city of residence, photograph, voice and/or image on video tape for publicity purposes in all media used by Okanagan College.
