Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (AME) M - License

For complete program information see the online Okanagan College Calendar.

Okanagan College (OC) in partnership with Northern Lights College (NLC) in Dawson Creek , B.C. and the Vernon Airport Training Council is pleased to announce a training program for students who would like to become Aircraft Maintenance Engineers (M – License). NLC video clip

This 72-week (approximately 17 months) co-op program is designed to take a student with little or no previous experience in the aircraft maintenance trade and supply him/her with the necessary skills to seek employment in that industry as an apprentice Aircraft Maintenance Engineer. The curriculum follows Transport Canada ’s guidelines and upon successful completion of the program students will have received all of the required apprenticeship technical training. Transport Canada will then grant the graduates eighteen months of experience credits toward the required 48-month (practical) experience needed to receive an Aircraft Maintenance Engineer M-license. This program also includes a 10-week paid co-op work term that provides students with a work placement in the aircraft maintenance industry.

How is Transport Canada involved?

Transport Canada Aviation is the regulatory agency for all civil aviation in Canada and issues licenses for AMEs , pilots and air traffic controllers. To be eligible for an AME license, an applicant must attend an approved or accepted course in Aircraft Maintenance Engineering. The Northern Lights College program was approved by Transport Canada in 1981 and has since earned a solid reputation within the aviation industry of Canada . Okanagan College's partnership with Northern Lights College has allowed for the majority of the NLC program to be delivered in Vernon .
