Okanagan College International

Off-Campus Employment

Students in Academic Programs are eligible to work off-campus:

Full-time international students registered in an academic program are eligible to work on-campus or off-campus. Students wishing to work off-campus have to meet certain eligibility requirements (see below) and send in an application (fee: $150) to Canada Immigration to obtain a work permit. After receiving the work permit, students are required to apply for a Social Insurance Number (S.I.N.) if they do not already have one. Please enquire at the International Education office for more information and to obtain an application form.

To be eligible for a work permit under this program a student must meet all of the following requirements:
  • Have a valid study permit
  • Be currently registered as a full-time student (minimum three courses) in an academic program at Okanagan College
  • Have been in full-time student attendance for at least six out of the last 12 months
  • Be in good academic standing ( ie: with a grade average of at least 55%)

A student must have a work permit before beginning work.  If at any time a student fails to meet any of these requirements, he/she will be reported to Canada Immigration as being ineligible for this program and will be asked to surrender his/her work permit.

Information regarding the application process can be found on the Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) website at http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/study/work-offcampus-how.asp or at the International Education office.
