Student Library Services

Borrowing & Fines

All OC Library users are responsible for material that is checked out on their cards. You will need to present your library card each time you borrow materials from an OC Library.

If an OC student has five or more items overdue or has accrued fines of $20.00 or more the student becomes "blocked". Blocked users can no longer renew their books online or place holds on books currently signed out. To become un-blocked you will have to pay down your fines to below $20.00. If you feel that these fines have been levied against you unjustly you may wish to speak with a librarian or fill out the fines/bill appeals form.

If you lose or damage library materials, you are responsible for replacement and processing costs. Please visit the fines and fees page for more information on borrowing privileges, fines, and lost item information.

Renewing & Returning Materials

Books and other library materials may be renewed online, in person, or by phone. Books and videos (DVD & VHS) may be renewed up to six times. Reserve materials and laptop computers may not be renewed.

With the exception of materials on reserve, items may be returned to any OC Library. Due to the short loan periods for reserve items you are required to return them directly to the Circulation Desk of the library from which you borrowed them.

Loan periods and overdue fines

Unless otherwise marked, all items are due by closing time of the due date. Material returned after the due date is subject to overdue charges. Fines and loan periods vary according to the type of material being signed out. Click here for the fines and fees schedule and further information.

Holds & Requests

If the book, video, magazine or other item you want is checked out or located at another campus library, you can request it online through the Voyager library catalogue.

E-mail Notification

Voyager, the library catalogue, automatically e-mails you to notify you of items available for pickup, overdue items and, for items on loan for 1 week or longer, sends a "courtesy notice" to inform you that items will soon be due. All of these notices are sent to your myOkanagan e-mail account. If you wish to forward your myOkanagan e-mail to a different address, follow these instructions:

  1. Connect to myOkanagan and log in with your student number and password.
  2. Click the e-mailicon.
  3. Click the Options tab.
  4. Click the Settings link.
  5. Check Enable forwarding.
  6. Type a valid e-mail address in the Email Address box, and then click Add.
  7. Click exit to exit from myOkanagan e-mail. All your myOkanagan e-mail, including library notices, will now be sent to the address you specified.

Please note that you are responsible for ensuring that the external e-mail address you have specified is valid and that the account remains active. Okanagan College assumes no responsibility for lost e-mail that you have chosen to forward to a non-OC address.

Student Laptop Lending Program

Okanagan College students can borrow one of 30 state-of-the-art laptop computers from the Library.

The laptops, equipped with wireless Internet access, are housed at Campus Library Circulation Desks and may be signed out to students in good standing with the Library.

Same day loan is free; one day loan is $5.00; two day loan is $10.00; three day loan is $15.00; four day loan is $20.00; and five to seven day loan is $25.00 (all payable in advance).

Laptops cannot be renewed. The fine for an overdue laptop is $1.00 per hour.
