Figurative Play
Recent Works by Tina Siddiqui at Kalamalka Vertigo
On view until Dec 15
Artist Talk Today at 1pm (Tuesday November 15th)
A satellite gallery of Gallery Vertigo, created through a partnership with the Kalamalka Campus of Okanagan College
Located next to the main lecture theatre on the Kalamalka Campus of Okanagan College. Open to the public during regular school hours.
Kalamalka Vertigo is pleased to present the work of Kelowna based artist, Tina Siddiqui, in Figurative Play.
This exhibition presents a collection of figurative works done in a variety of mediums. Siddiqui’s joys and enthusiasm for capturing the human form in paint or other artistic mediums is clearly evident, as is her artistic skill.
Artist Talk:
Tina Siddiqui will speak at 1pm on Tuesday November 15th at the Kalamalka Campus of Okanagan College in the main lecture theatre. She will speak about her work in general, as well as how the work up in Kalamalka Vertigo fits into her overall practice.
Artist Statement:
I am interested in the multidimensional aspect of the human form. I find it continuously fascinating. My primary focus remains on capturing images with minimum of rendition. The play of colours is a joy for me and I splash it about instinctively as I proceed through the painting process. Although I often enjoy an "explosion" of colours, I find working with a limited palette equally thrilling. My ongoing quest to capture light in my paintings forces me to explore new colour combinations. I find Life drawing very thrilling and often work from direct observation of live models.
Born and raised in Pakistan, I travelled within the country and overseas with my diplomat father. Trained as a Graphic Designer, my artistic journey has been that of an explorer. Deconstruction of forms as I build up my collages is totally consuming as I work my way through composition, colour, form and light. In addition to figurative art, portraits and landscapes are the subjects I am currently painting.
Since 1976 I have exhibited in group and solo shows in United Kingdom, USA, Canada, Pakistan and Dubai and awarded for abstract painting, art education and portraiture, namely 2003 Open International Portrait Competition in Toronto. In 2004 I moved to Kelowna after a 13 year stay in Dubai. (Siddiqui)
