Karen Bright, Campus Library Assistant at the Kalamalka Campus officially retired October 1, 2010 | On July 30, Library staff members gathered at the Kalamalka campus to wish Karen Bright a happy retirement. Karen began working for Okanagan College in 1994 at the KLO Campus as Library Assistant for Periodicals. She transferred to Vernon in 1999, where she was most recently employed as the Campus Library Assistant.
Her colleagues will miss Karen’s sense of humour, her advocacy for the campus library, and her organizational skills. Karen plans to spend time in her garden and working on her natural skin care products business.
Karen Bright was Campus Library Assistant at the Kalamalka Campus Library for over a year and was the successor to colleague Anne Caughlan who recently retired after 19 years as Campus Library Assistant.
Karen brought a great deal of experience to her new position after many years in a supervisory capacity in the public library system in Alberta and subsequently 15 years of service at Okanagan College Library in various areas including technical services and circulation services.
Over the years Karen’s keen interest in current events, local to global, coupled with her creativity, resulted in well researched social and political awareness displays such as community gardens, factory farming, tar sands, Afghanistan, and many more topics.
Congratualtions Karen! We will miss you on campus - but will enjoy the fruits of your retirement pursuits at local markets and your farm in Cherryville! ENJOY!!

In Karen's own words when asked ....
"I have never forgotten what it is like to be a student. My interests are many but I have a passion for "Fishing", yes, fishing! I have a fish tail (tale) or two.
Of course I love to read and never go anywhere without a book. Most of all I enjoy time spent with family (and Pets). I recently discovered Tai Chi (beautiful) and I love to cook (I make a killer soup)
Anytime I can be outside is a good day. I am an avid photographer. I think I'll stop there...."
