Aircraft Maintenance Engineering
The Program
OC, in partnership with Northern Lights College (NLC) in Dawson Creek, BC and the Vernon Airport Training Council, offers a training program for Pre-Apprentice Aircraft maintenance Engineers (M – License). This 70-week (approximately 17 months) Co-op program is designed to take a student with little or no previous experience in the aircraft maintenance trade and supply him/her with the necessary skills to seek employment in that industry as an apprentice maintenance engineer. The curriculum follows Transport Canada’s guidelines and upon successful completion of the program Transport Canada will grant graduates 18 months of experience credits toward the 48-month experience requirement for an Aircraft mainenance Engineer license. This program includes a 10 week paid co-op work term.

Co-operative Education Work Experience
Co-operative Education is a system that integrates classroom study with paid on the job work experience. Students who satisfy the eligibility criteria will have an opportunity to gain valuable work experience by participating in paid co-op work terms. Such experience increases students’ employment opportunities and their value to their employers upon graduation.

Salaries
Salaries are established by the employer. Co-op salary ranges are available for reference from the Co-operative Education, Graduate & Student Employment centre.
Employer Responsibilities
- employment that is related to the student’s field of study
- an orientation to familiarize the incoming student with the employer’s situation and expectations
- supervision of students by individuals who understand and are interested in co-op
- increasing responsibilities in successive work terms for returning student
- an exit interview to discuss the student’s performance and future plans
