An experienced construction project management professional is the latest addition to the Okanagan College Board of Governors.

Okanagan Falls resident W. Tom Styffe has been appointed by the Provincial Government to a one-year term on the College Board, ending Dec. 31, 2010.

Styffe is semi-retired after a career in construction project management that spanned more than three decades. His work included projects ranging from the $25-million New Westminster campus of Douglas College to schools, hospitals, commercial projects and more than 1,000 units of residential construction.

He’s serving his second term as an Alternate Director for the Regional District of Okanagan Similkameen and has been active in municipal and provincial politics, including serving as a councillor for Logan Lake.

“I’m very excited by this opportunity,” says Styffe. “I’m looking forward to contributing to the development and growth of Okanagan College.”

Styffe knows well the impact a College can have – he’s a graduate of the Construction Management program at Douglas College and has taken courses at Vancouver Community College and BCIT. He’s an active member in the Southern Interior Local Government Association, the Union of BC Municipalities, and the Federation of Canadian Municipalities.

“Tom’s experience and insights will be valuable at the Board table,” says Lance Kayfish, the interim chair of the Board of Governors. (An election will be held at the Board’s Jan. 26 meeting. Janet Shaw, the previous chair of the Board, concluded her term on Dec. 31, 2009.)

Styffe joins Kayfish, Phillipe Bourbeau, Michael Conlin, Bill Cooke, Brian Hughes, Paul Johnson, Jane Lister, Andrew Nelson, Yvonne Pinder, Lianne Rozniak, and Loretta Swite, as members of the Board. Okanagan College President Jim Hamilton and Okanagan College’s Education Council chair, Rick Gee, are ex officio members of the Board.
