Okanagan College Media Release
Okanagan College’s Kelowna campus will offer a new service for students and staff when it opens an on-campus childcare facility on Sept. 1, 2009.
The daycare, which will be operated on campus by the YM-YWCA of the Central Okanagan, will provide space for 53 children ranging in age from infants to five years old.

The 3,000 square-foot facility was built by 12 students in the College’s Residential Construction program under the supervision of general contractor TEAM Construction. It features three distinctly different active play areas, a quiet room, an office, washrooms, full kitchen facilities, laundry and a secured outdoor play area.
The YM-YWCA is currently accepting childcare registrations and waitlist applications, explained CEO Sharon Peterson.
“The YMCA is the largest provider of non-profit childcare in Canada, and this Centre will offer the YMCA Playing to Learn curriculum which uses play as the foundation for learning,” said Peterson. “We are thrilled to be working with the College to meet the needs of Okanagan College’s students, staff and the community at large with this beautiful childcare facility.”
