Okanagan College Media Release
Two new members have been appointed to the Okanagan College Board of Governors by the Provincial Government and two new student members will be joining the body this fall.
The Province recently appointed Loretta Swite, a Councillor with the Westbank First Nation and an Okanagan College alumna, to the Board for a year. Yvonne Pinder, a former Vice-President of Finance at Okanagan College and former Chief Financial Officer of the Saskatchewan Institute of Applied Science and Technology as well as a former Director of Integrated Financial Services at Saskatchewan Health, will also serve for a year. Their terms end in September, 2009.
Swite graduated from Okanagan College’s Civil Engineering Technology program in 2001. She has served as the Chair of School District 23’s Aboriginal Education Committee since 2003.
Recent student elections to the Board of Governors resulted in two acclamations: Jason Manning, a Civil Engineering Technology student, and Zhen Zhou, a Business Administration degree student.
The Province also reappointed Brian Hughes, of Penticton, to another three years on the Board, ending in 2012.
“Loretta and Yvonne will bring valuable perspective and experience to our deliberations,” said Janet Shaw, Chair of the Board of Governors. “We’re looking forward to Jason and Zhen joining us as well to bring their insights to bear on our decisions.”
Swite, Pinder, Zhou, and Manning join Shaw, Vice-Chair Lance Kayfish, Michael Conlin, Bill Cooke, Rick Gee, Hughes, Paul Johnson, Jane Lister and Angelika March on the Board. The Board’s next business meeting is Nov. 25, 2008.
