Okanagan College Media Release - Sept. 26, 2007
Okanagan College has enrolled 5,229 students this fall – an increase of 9.8 per cent over last year.
“For the second year in a row, we have seen more students choose Okanagan College, and our programs,” notes President Jim Hamilton. “This signals that we are providing the access to post-secondary education that meets student and community needs. We’re well on our way to exceeding our targets for the third year in a row, and are anticipating another stellar year for the institution.”
Enrolment at the institution’s campuses (with 2006 fall enrolment in brackets) is as follows:
• Salmon Arm – 335 (277)
• Kalamalka – 754 (567)
• Penticton – 480 (448)
• Kelowna – 3,552 (3,359)
Another 108 students are enrolled in distance education.
There has also been significant growth in the number of international students attending Okanagan College: the 378 students registered this fall represents a 17 per cent increase over last year.
“It’s important to recognize that this is a snapshot of our fall enrolment,” notes Okanagan College Registrar Robert Ruf. “We have courses and programs that start after our stable enrolment date that are not reflected here, but will factor into our year-end report of student enrolment.”
