Okanagan College Media Release
Jim Hamilton’s term as President of Okanagan College has been extended until March 31, 2010 by the Board of Governors.
"Jim helped steer the development of Okanagan College through the transition of OUC into the College and UBC Okanagan, and has offered exemplary leadership in the first two years of our operation," notes Janet Shaw, Chair of the Okanagan College Board of Governors. "The decision to extend his term was an easy one for the Board to reach."
Hamilton has been affiliated with the institution for nearly 30 years, beginning as an English instructor in Vernon, and later serving as a member of the Board of Governors while working for School District 22. In 1998 he rejoined OUC as an administrator responsible for the Kalamalka campus. When the change from OUC was announced in 2004, Hamilton was chosen to lead the College transition team.
"I must express my appreciation for this vote of confidence," says Hamilton, a Vernon resident. "But I think that what it really reflects is the Board’s support for our staff and students and our track record of success and achievement over the past two years."
Okanagan College has about 5,900 students and about 1,019 employees.
