Computer Software

• Academic pricing on software from Microsoft, Adobe and others is available through the OC bookstore. 

• for college computers, buy your adobe software through the purchasing department at a greatly reduced price
  
  Digital Imaging Software
  

• OC computers often have IrfanView installed. This shareware application is useful for cropping and resizing images. It does not have multiple layer capability. Consider upgrading to Adobe Photoshop Elements or Adobe Photoshop.
  

• OC computers generally have Windows Movie Maker installed. Usually it's found at Start | Accessories | Entertainment. Upgrades to consider include Adobe Premiere Elements, Adobe Premiere or Sony Vegas.

• Download and install Audacity. Be sure to also download and install the LAME MP3 encoder.

• My current favourite free WYSIWYG web editing software is Nvu.

• Some OC machines include PDF Creator which acts as a virtual printer. You pull down file to print and select PDF creator as the printer. You end up with a PDF version of your document as a file on your computer. For serious PDF work, consider upgrading to Adobe Acrobat.
