Library Information for Students

Locations & Hours

OC libraries are located on the Kelowna, Penticton, Salmon Arm and Vernon campuses. Students are welcome to use any campus Library. Library hours vary by campus and time of year. Library services can be accessed at any campus location as well as through Distance Education.

Library Card

Your student photo ID is your Library card and your student number is your Library card number. OC Business Services prepares ID cards. Photo times and locations vary by campus. Check with your campus Library for current photo schedules.

Borrowing

Loan periods vary by type of material. Unless otherwise marked, all items are due by closing time of the due date. Material returned after the due date may be subject to overdue fines. If you lose or damage Library materials, you are responsible for replacement and processing costs. You have the right to discuss fines with a librarian. You may also file a formal appeal. Further borrowing information can be found on the 'Use the Library' web page.

Requests, Renewals, Returns & Holds

Books and other Library materials may be renewed online, in person, or by phone. The number of renewals varies according to the material. With the exception of materials on reserve, items may be returned to any OC Library. Reserve materials must be returned to the Circulation Desk of the Library from which you borrowed.

The online catalogue allows you to request items from any OC Campus Library, as well as place holds on materials signed out to other users. Requested materials are delivered to the Campus Library of your choice. An e-mail will be sent to your preferred account to tell you when the material is available. You can also check your Library account to see if the material has arrived.

Interlibrary Loans (ILL)

You may request that items not available at OC Library be borrowed or photocopied from other libraries. Learn more about Interlibrary Loan services under Borrowing on the 'Use the LIbrary' web page. You can place a direct interlibrary loan request using this online form

Course Reserves

Upon request from instructors, the Library will place items on Reserve for short loan periods to maximize access for students. Check the catalogue for your course reserve materials.

Laptop Loans

Okanagan College students may borrow a laptop computer from the Library. Some Campus Libraries also lend netbook computers. Same day laptop loans are free, overnight loans are $5. Laptops can be borrowed up to one week for a charge of $25.

Students must sign a library agreement on a yearly basis to borrow computers. Please fill out the agreement and bring to a library circulation desk. Individuals will be asked for their student ID when presenting the form.

Research Help

Librarians offer research assistance and are available to help you find resources, develop and follow a research strategy, cite sources, and more. Visit your campus library, contact a librarian, or try AskAway.

Group Study Rooms

Group study rooms are available in the Library at all OC campuses except Salmon Arm. On the Kelowna campus student meeting room bookings are available online, through the student tab in myOkanagan. More information on booking guidelines and room amenities can be found here.
