Below is a partial list of awards that are administered by the sponsoring organization (not by Okanagan College); you must apply directly to the organization providing the award, by completing their application form and submitting it directly to them by their specified deadline date.  

Links for most of these awards have been included.  There are many scholarships, bursaries and loans available through a variety of organizations.  Students should ask their parents if they are affiliated with an employer, union, club or other organization which offers scholarships or bursaries to dependents.

Aboriginal Scholarships - BC Hydro
BC Hydro provides eight $1,500 aboriginal scholarships and one $2,000 Randy Brant Memorial Scholaship.

All Nations Trust Company (ANTCO)
Awards open to status, non-status or Metis students who currently live within or are originally from one of the following five Tribal Regions:  Kootenay, Lillooet, Shuswap, Thompson and Okanagan.

BC Aboriginal Student Awards
Open to BC residents of Aboriginal ancestry who have been active in their school or community and are planning to study in BC.

Ch'nook Scholars Program
Provides Aboriginal students with new business education opportunities, including bursaries, scholarships and funding assistance.

CN Diversity Scholarships
Through its Diversity Scholarships, CN will offer grants to support the post-seocndary education of women, military veterans and people of Aboriginal heritage in Canada.

First Citizens' Fund
The Student Bursary Program of the First Citizens' Fund provides financial assistance to Aboriginal students enrolled in post-secondary education programs.

Indigenous Adult and Higher Learning Association (IAHLA)
Dr. Jacob McKay Honour Scholarship - two awards of $2,000 - open to Aboriginal students who have attended an IAHLA institute and will be continuing at the IAHLA institute or attending a BC public post-secondary institution.  Contact the IAHLA for further information, toll-free in BC:  1-877-422-3672

Indigenous Reporters Scholarship Fund
The Journalists for Human Rights (JHR) has launched the Indigenous Reporters Program, which aims to ensure young, Indigenous media students have the opportunity to be supported throughout their journey to becoming established Canadian journalists.

Indspire (formerly the National Aboriginal Achievement Foundation) provides bursary and scholarship awards for First Nations, Inuit and Metis students.

KPMG's First Nations and Aboriginal Student Awards
This scholarship program is designed to recognize the Aboriginal community and offer financial assistance to Aboriginal students attending post-secondary institutions across Canada.

New Relationship Trust Foundation Bursaries and Scholarships
Bursaries and scholarships available for students who are a member of a BC First Nation.  

Nexen Aboriginal Education Award Program
The Nexen Aboriginal Education Award program assists students who pursue studies relevant to the oil and gas industry.  There are eight awards in the amount of $2,000 annually, and recipients may also be considered for summer and post-graduate employment with the company.

RBC Royal Bank Aboriginal Student Awards Program
To assist Aboriginal students to complete post secondary education, and provide an opportunity for RBC to strengthen it's relationship with the Aboriginal community.

Adoptive Families Association of BC - Howard Legacy Youth Fund
Provides financial assistance to youth who are in or from government care and planning to study at any post-secondary institution in BC.

BCGA Player Development Trust Fund'
The BC Golf Association Player Development Trust Fund invites applications from resident BC young men and women of Canadian Citizenship that have demonstrated both scholastic and golf excellence.  The application form can be downloaded from their website under Junior Scholarships.

BC Government and Service Employees' Union Scholarships
The BC Government and Service Employees' Union continues to offer scholarships each yar to students who are related to BCGEU members and who are entering post-secondary institutions in British Columbia.

BC Housing Education Awards Program
This program helps individuals living in subsidized housing or those on the Rental Assistance Program (RAP) pursue their educational goals.

Canadian Forces Personnel Assistance Fund
The Canadian Forces Personnel Assistance Fund offers an Education Assistance Loan Program to assist serving and former members and their dependants with costs of post-secondary education.

Chaney-Ensign Bursary Fund - Hamilton Community Foundation 
The Chaney-Ensign Bursary Fund provides modest financial assistance to post-secondary students who can demonstrate financial need and who have graduated from a publicly-funded high school in the Hamilton-Wentworth area.

Columbia Basin Trust (CBT) College Community Service Award
The College Community Service Award rewards mature students in the Columbia Basin who have been volunteers in their community and helps them further their education while remaining in their region.

Credit Union Foundation of British Columbia
Founded by and funded by credit union members, CUFBC awards are provided to BC resident post-secondary students in need of financial assistance to complete their education.  The awards vary from $500 to $3,000.  For complete criteria and application information, please visit:

Envision Financial Education Award
Envision Credit Union provides 16 - $2,000 scholarships to deserving secondary and post-secondary students who are members of Envision Credit Union.

FCSSBC Youth Education Bursary
The Youth Education bursary was established by Federation members (the Federation of Community Social Services of BC) in 2009, to encourage and support young people to develop a career in their sector.  The bursary program supports young people 25 or younger who either are, or have been, in care and who want to pursue post-secondary education towards a career in human social services.  Students are welcome to apply over multiple years.

Forest Nursery Association of BC Educational Award
The purpose of this award is to assist worthy students who are members or sons/daughters/grandsons/granddaughters/employees of an FNABC member to further post-secondary education.

Interior Savings Million Dollar Bursary Program
As part of its Member Rewards Program, Interior Savings is offering 1,000 post-secondary education bursaries of $1,000 to students that are graduating from local high schools in 2014.  For information about how to apply, visit

Public Guardian and Trustee Educational Assistance Fund
To be eligible, an applicant must be a former permanent ward of the Province of British Columbia and planning to study at a post-secondary level in an academic, technical or vocational program.

Royal Canadian Legion Bursary

SICA (Southern Interior Construction Association) Scholarship Program
Scholarships for students entering a career in the construction industry, or upgrading their education in the construction industry.

Storwell Self Storage Foster Children Bursary
Storwell Self Storage provides one award of $2,000 and four awards of $500 each for students who demonstrates financial need and have been a foster child with a CAS or similar official Canadian foster care program. 

Summerland Credit Union Adult Education Award
SDCU has up to five $1,000 bursaries available to adult members (19 and over) who are attending a public or private post-secondary approved program.

Valley First Education Awards Program
Applications for the "Feed the Valley Volunteer Education Award" and the "Valley First Education Award for Outstanding School and Community Involvement" are available at all Valley First branch locations and for download from the Valley First website.

BC Exports Awards - International Business Studies Award
The award recognizes a post-secondary study who has shown leadership and excelled in international studies while contributing to the BC export community.

BC Human Resources Management Association Scholarships

CA Education Foundation Award
Students can apply to the CA Education Foundation for one of seven $1,000 tuition awards.  Students must be in their final year of their diploma or degree program, include a letter indicating intention to become a CA, and submit an application form to the CA Education Foundation.  Students will receive their award upon registering with the CASB or the ACIA program.

CGA Academic Excellence Scholarship
The Certified General Accountants Association of British Columbia awards a $500 scholarship annually to an accounting student who has completed the third year of the undergraduate accounting degree program at Okanagan College. The $500 scholarship will be applied to the student's tuition fees when the recipient enrols in the final year of Okanagan College’s undergraduate accounting degree program. Okanagan College School of Business will select a recipient based on academic performance and make a recommendation to the CGA-BC in June.

CGA Continuing Education Tuition Scholarships
The Certified General Accountants Association of B.C. annually awards CGA Continuing Education Tuition Scholarships to graduates of the accounting programs at at Okanagan College.  Two $2,000 Continuing Education Scholarships are available to OC graduates of the Accounting Degree program. The $2,000 scholarships will be credited towards tuition fees when the recipient enrols in the Prerequisite Education Program or the Professional Education Program of the Chartered Professional Accountants of British Columbia.  This scholarship is valid for the academic year following the award; the academic year is from September to June.  Click on CGA Continuing Education Tuition Scholarship  to download the application.  Okanagan College will review the applications and make a recommendation to the Certified General Accountants Association of B.C. in June.

Dick Lucas Memorial CMABC Scholarship
CMABC offers the Dick Lucas Memorial CMA Scholarship as a remission of fees award in the amount of $2,500 redeemable toward Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) certification program dues and tuition for a three-year period following its award.  The purpose of Dick Lucas Memorial Scholarship is to promote the study of management accounting and careers in industry.  The scholarship recognizes students displaying potential in this field of study and encourages continuation and pursuit of the CPA professional accounting designation.  The award will go to the student with the highest final mark in Advanced Managerial Accounting, BUAD 466, in each year July 1st – June 30th, that applies for the award.  Click on Dick Lucas Memorial CMABC Scholarship to download the application form.  Okanagan College will review the applications and make a recommendation to the Certified Management Accountants Society in June.  

EDC International Business Scholarships
Export Development Canada (EDC) International Business Scholarship competiiton, created and designed to develop the next generation of globally-minded business students.  EDC's scholarship program offers up to 30 scholarships annually of $4,000 each, 25 for outstanding undergraduate students in international business and 5 for students in programs that combine business with environmental or sustainability studies.

EFC (Electro-Federation Canada) Scholarship Foundation Program
Considering a career in the electrical, electronics or telecommunications industry?  The Electro-Federation Canada Scholarship Foundation has been supporting students for over 17 years.  Apply for over $120,000 in scholarships.   For more information, visit their website:

Local Government Managements Association Scholarships
Scholarships for students with an interest in local government management and administration who are pursuing post-secondary courses.

Promotional Product Professionals of Canada
A scholarship program for students pursuing a career and employment opportunities in Sales, Marketing and Business.  There are a total of eleven scholarships of $1,500 each, available:  4 in Ontario, 2 in Quebec, 3 in Western Canada and 2 in the Atlantic provinces.

Retail as a Career Scholarship Program
Retail Council of Canada, in partnership with industry sponsors, will award more than $75,000 in scholarships and benefits to students entering or currently enrolled in a business, marketing or retail-related program at a Canadian post-secondary institution.

Accessible Media Inc. Scholarship Program

Two scholarships of $5,000 each will be awarded, one of which will be reserved for a student with a permanent disability.

BC Paraplegic Foundation Bursaries
Bursaries administered by the BC Paraplegic Foundation are available to students who have a spinal cord injury.

BIAC (Brain Injury Association of Canada) National Bursary Program

The BIAC provides a $2,000 bursary to assist students living with an acquired brain injury to pursue educational opportunities in an English or French post-secondary institution or apprenticeship/trades program in Canada.

Canadian Hard of Hearing Association Scholarship Program
The purpose of the Scholarship Program is to offer financial assistance and recognition to hard of hearing and deafened students registered in a full-time program at a recognized Canadian college or university, in any area of study, with the ultimate goal of obtaining a degree or diploma.

Lorne Fraser Educational Fund Scholarships and Bursaries
Thinking of applying to post-secondary education or job training in BC and have experience with mental illness?  The Lorne Fraser Educational Fund has helped over 150 British Columbians living with mental illness achieve their post-secondary education goals.

Mattinson Scholarship Program for Students with Disabilities
To encourage Canadian students with permanent disabilities to pursue university studies with the ultimate objective of obtaining a first undergraduate degree.  Information and the application form are available from the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada website.

Sarah Gaulin Memorial Scholarship
The Gaulin Foundation offers $1,000 scholarships in honour of Sarah Gaulin to promote the resilience of individuals with mental illness pursuing post-secondary education.

UCB Canada Inc. Scholarship Opportunities
UCB Canada Inc. is offering post-secondary scholarships for people who live with rheumatoid arthritis. UCB Canada Inc. is offering sixteen (16), one-time scholarships of up to $5,000 CAD in 2012 to students diagnosed with inflammatory arthritis, who are entering into or currently attending a post-secondary educational institution.  The winners must demonstrate academic ambition and use their scholarship toward post-secondary education (i.e. university, college, trade school, etc.) for the 2012/2013 school year. The deadline to apply is June 29, 2012.


Association of Commonwealth Universities
The Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) is a global network of outstanding human and scientific resources. The ACU serves member institutions by advancing international co-operation and understanding in higher education, and by providing a broad range of services and facilities.

British Columbia Study Abroad Scholarships
BCSA provides eights scholarships of $1,500 each to put toward a study abroad program.  Students must have applied and been conditionally accepted, or already be enrolled in a study abroad program to be eligible.

Canadian Bureau for International Education
CBIE is Canada's national organization dedicated exclusively to international education. Its activities include research and information services, training programs, scholarship management, and professional development.

Chinese Government Scholarships
The Chinese Government, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, is offering scholarships for eligible BC students to study abroad.  The purpose of the scholarships is to strengthen mutual understanding and friendship between the Chinese people and people from the whole world, and to develop cooperation and exchange in the fields of education, science, culture, economy and trade between China and other countries.  Full and partial scholarships are offered to successful applicants to study in China.

Ernst Mach Grant for Studying at an Austrian University of Applied Sciences
The grant is designed for undergraduate and graduate students under age 35 of non-European countries and of all study disciplines.  There is only one application deadline for the following academic year:  January 15th

GoEuro Scholarship Program
GoEuro Travel has launched a scholarship program for students over 18 to send in their vision of "A Closer Europe".  The student with the most creative entry will receive a scholarship of 2000EUR and the chance to complete a 1-3 month paid internship in GoEuro's Berlin office.

A Place for Mom Senior Care Innovation Scholarship
Five $1000 scholarships available to students enrolled in an associate’s, bachelor’s, or graduate level program at an accredited school in the fields of gerontology, medicine, nursing, social work, sociology, psychology, physical or occupational therapy, speech pathology or long-term care administration.
Accessible Media Inc. Scholarship Program

Two scholarships of $5,000 each will be awarded, one of which will be reserved for a student with a permanent disability.

Reliance Foundry has launched a scholarship program that will award a total of $4,000 to students currently enrolled, or planning to enrol, in post-secondary institutions.  The competition is a great opportunity for students that are planning a career in architectural design, site planning or civil engineering, but is open to students in virtually every field of study.

Canadian Urban Transit Association - Centennial Scholarship
Five (5) $2,000. scholarships will be awarded to deserving students registered in full-time Canadian post-secondary institutions - one for each region (Atlantic, Quebec, Prairies and Territories and British Columbia). The application process includes an essay question asking students to show how their course of study will prepare them for a career in public transit.

COFI Annual Convention Legacy Scholarships
The Council of Forest Industries (COFI) is once again pleased to offer ten $1,000 scholarships to deserving students throughout the interior of BC who will be attending any of the ten interior BC post-secondary institutions in September 2012.  This is not just a scholarship for students entering forestry programs, but a scholarship designed to support students entering a variety of programs leading to a career in the forest industry.

Columbia Institute Awards Program
The Columbia Institute Awards program is one of the few scholarship programs designed to support the financial needs of adult learners interested in re-traiining and skills development.

Community Foundation of the South Okanagan Bursaries
The Community Foundation of the South Okanagan provides bursaries to deserving students in the South Okanagan and Similkameen region.  Funding for these bursaries comes from two endowment funds:  the Sharon Amos Legacy Fund for the Arts, and the John & Kathy Scarfo Fund.

Communities in Bloom Foundation Bursaries
Bursaries for students enrolled in post-secondary studies pertaining to ornamental and/or environmental horticulture programs at an accredited institution.

Dalton Camp Award
Each year, up to three Canadians are selected to win a $5,000 prize for excellence in essay writing on the link between democratic values and the quality of the media in Canada.

David Squires Foundation
The David Squires Foundation provides scholarships each year to students who are in a full-time Computer Science program at a University or College.

DermMedica Scholarship

The Duke of Edinburgh's Award Program
The Duke of Edinburgh's Award is a youth program.  If you're between fourteen and twenty-five, you can particpate in the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Program.  Whether your objectives are based on personal development or community service or both, you determine your goals and then strategize to meet them.  The Duke of Edinburgh's Award will then recognize your achievements by presenting you with a bronze, silver or gold award.

Geomatics Canada Scholarship
The Canadian Institute of Geomatics (CIG) administers a number of scholarship and awards programs that are oriented towards promoting the field of Geomatics and supporting students enrolled in a Geomatics related program.

Holmes Foundation Make it Right Scholarships

The Holmes Foundation Make it Right Scholarships are designed to encourage students in Canadian colleges who have demonstrated a commitment to excellence in residential renovation or construction to complete their academic training. 

Ike Barber Transfer Scholarship Program
The Ike Barber Transfer Scholarship program is open to students who must transfer to another public post-secondary institution in B.C. to complete their degree.  Successful applicants must clearly demonstrate academic merit as well as significant voluntary involvement in their community and/or school. 

International Council for Canadian Studies (for grad students)
The International Council for Canadian Studies (ICCS) promotes and supports research, education and publications in all fields of Canadian Studies and in all countries.

InviteRight Scholarships (for Grade XII students)
Three $500 scholarships are available for three different types of students (Graduation, Athletics, Drama/Theatre).

John B. Holdstock Scholarship (BC Conservation Foundation)
The successful applicant of this $1,000 scholarship must be a BC resident and a student attending university or college in the sciences or related outdoors field. 

Joint Diversity and Training Trust
The Overwaitea Food Group has partnered with UFCW Local 1518 to establish a Joint Diversity and Training Trust to support and maintain a respectful and positive working environment.  Their goal is to work collaboratively to promote diversity awareness and build strong, healthy and mutually beneficial relationships within the diverse communities that they serve.

Keith Gilmore Foundation Scholarships
The Keith Gilmore Foundation was established to provide scholarships to worthy applicants taking post-secondary education in the fields of agriculture, agricultural journalism and veterinary medicine.

Kelowna Film Society Awards Program
The Kelowna Film Society offers financial assistance to local film students (throughout the Okanagan Valley) and established filmmakers.

Kelowna Public Records Grant Applications
Public Records is a non-profit supported by TELUS that fosters the career of artists by providing them with the funding necessary to create their art as well as a platform in which to showcase it.  As part of the program, they are offering up to $7,500 in funding to musicians and filmmakers to help them produce music videos.

Kin Canada Bursaries
A program of the Hal Rogers Endowment Fund, for students currently in or planning to attend post-secondary education.  Bursaries are awarded to students based on financial need, community and school involvement, and knowledge of Kin Canada.  The bursaries are supported each year by the fundraising efforts of Kinsmen, Kinette and Kin Clubs across the country.  Kin Canada is the Association of Kinsmen, Kinette and Kin clubs.  For more information visit

Lyle Makosky Values and Ethics in Sport Fund
This national endowment fund is intended to stimulate thoughtful examination of values-based and ethical sport.
It was established in 2014 by Lyle Makosky to help support the work of the True Sport Foundation (TSF) and the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport. The fund’s capital is held and invested by the Community Foundation of Ottawa and annual earnings are used by the TSF to support financial awards in the area of values and ethics in sport with a view to:
• Critical examination and open dialogue on the compelling challenges in today’s sport;
• Protecting and enhancing the quality and value of the sport experience;
• Ensuring the integrity of the conduct of sport; and
• Watching over the values, ethical code and principles on which sport is founded.

Mackenzie King Scholarships
The Mackenzie King Open Scholarship is open to graduates of any Canadian university who engage in (commence or continue) graduate study in any field, in Canada or elsewhere.  The Mackenzie King Travelling Scholarship is open to graduates of any Canadian university who engage in (commence or continue) graduate study, in the United States or United Kingdom, of international relations or industrial relations (including the international or industrial aspects of law, history, politics and economics).

Mary Cone Barrie Scholarship
Destiny Solutions created the Mary Cone Barrie Scholarship to applaud the efforts of non-traditional students enrolled in a CONTINUING EDUCATION PROGRAM.  The scholarship is available to any non-traditional student currently enrolled in a course or program at a Canadian or United States accredited college or university.  Destiny Solutions awards two scholarships per year, each valued at $2,500.

Women of Oliver for Women (WOW) Award
