Celebrate National Co-op Week

March 20 - 24, 2017 was the National Co-op week. The Okanagan College Student, Graduate, and Co-op Employment Centre hosted a week-long series of on-campus events and online challenges to celebrate the many ways co-op enriches the educational experience for Okangan College students.

The Canadian Association for Co-operative Education (CAFCE) coordinates National Co-op Week every year with the purpose of spreading awareness of the value of post-secondary Co-operative Education while fostering a nationwide community of collaborative practice among students and employers.

Enter to win

Okanagan College’s Student, Grad and Co-op Employment Centre invites all OC Co-op students, employers and staff to share their Co-operative educational experiences on Twitter and Facebook. Post photos, videos and comments for your chance to win.

OC’s Employment Centre coordinates daily social media challenges. Prizes are given out each day to randomly selected students who complete the challenges. Prizes include $50 gift cards to various businesses.

To win, each student should use #coopweek in their posts as well as tagging the Student Grad and Co-op Centre’s social media accounts with @OCemployment

CAFCE also runs a nationwide social media contest on their LinkedIn, Instagram and Twitter accounts. Students across Canada have a chance to win prizes daily and grand prizes. OC students can take part in both contests as long as they use the hashtag #coopweek.

National Co-op Week is also celebrated offline: During the National Co-op Week students, can partake in various events happening around campus. To see what is happening click here for activities, times and dates.

About Co-op at OC

Co-op is an integral part of Okanagan College’s educational experience. “We are so proud of all our Co-op students and we want to take time to celebrate all that they have accomplished,” says Tanya Tarlit, Coordinator, at the Student, Graduate and Co-op Employment department. National Co-op Week is a great way of celebrating our co-op programs and recognizing co-op students while raising awareness of these programs among new students.”

The Student, Graduate and Co-op Employment Centre at Okanagan College was formed in 1986. The implementation of cooperative education has brought the local employer community much closer to OC students, and graduates.

“Okanagan College’s goal with Co-op is to help you put education to work and ultimately achieve success in your chosen field,” explains James Coble, the College's Director of Student Services.
