Aboriginal Student Recognition Celebration
5th Annual Aboriginal Student Recognition Celebration
The Aboriginal Access and Services Division will be hosting the fifth Annual Aboriginal Student Recognition Celebration. It will be an opportunity for you to celebrate your success in a way that reflects your culture with your family, friends, and Okanagan College.
We believe you should be recognized for your achievements.
1. Where and when will it take place?
Okanagan College, 1000 KLO Road, Kelowna, BC in the Student Services Building Lecture Theatre (S104) on March 22, 2014 from 1:00-5:00pm.
2. Who can take part?
Any Okanagan College Aboriginal student (First Nation, Metis or Inuit) from any program or course of any length who wishes to be recognized for completing their goals while at Okanagan College. If you came to the College to meet a specific goal and you've met your goal, you are more than welcome to take part.
3. Do I have to register?
Yes. You can either register in person at any one of our Aboriginal Student Centres or you can register online. Please register by March 14, 2014. Register before the deadline and you'll be entered to win a prize (the winner's name will be drawn at the ceremony and you must be in attendance to win)!
4. Is there a fee?
No. There is no fee associated with this event. But, because there is no fee, the ceremony will be modest in nature.
5. Will this take the place of the regular Okanagan College Graduation Ceremony?
No. This is a separate, additional event that seeks to celebrate your accomplishments. We are not handing out official graduation documents and in no way is it to be considered an official convocation. We just want to recognize your achievements in a relaxed, culturally relevant manner. We still recommend that you attend the regular graduation ceremony. Our event will have cultural elements that honor your ancestry and will include a small reception after the ceremony.
6. Can I bring family and/or friends?
Yes. You can bring immediate or extended family and friends. All that we ask is that you let us know how many guests you plan on bringing. You can do this when you register for the event.
7. I won't be finished my program by March 22, 2014, but I will be done by August, can I still take part?
Yes. We are inviting any student who has recently reached or will reach their goals in the near future to take part. All students are welcome to attend.
So if this sounds interesting and fun, we encourage you to register to take part in this event.
