TRADES

ACTIVITY STATIONS

Automotive Service Tech  

Talk to an instructor about the Automotive Trade and try your hand at re-assembling parts from a powertrain.  Also see how a powertrain works on a Hybrid Vehicle through their a demonstration board. 

Culinary Arts

Exploring what we eat, sensory activity.
The Culinary Arts program at OC wants to take your senses on an adventure. We all know what our favourite foods taste like, but could we recognize them by scent, touch, and microscopic sight? Would you eat them the same way again? Well you will have to come to my station and find out.  
           

Plumbing & Piping Trades

Cutting, crimping, and assembling pipes with cutters, measuring tape, crimp rings and more tools of the trade.

Sheet Metal Work

Try your hand at reshaping and crimping sheet metal with the tools of the trade.

Aircraft Maintenance Engineer

Take apart and learn how to internally time an Ignition System for a small aircraft engine and reassemble it so see if you can get a big spark. Turbo shaft engine display.

Welding Trades

Experience the virtual reality Arc Welding Trainer it provides a hands on realistic training experience for users.

Heavy Mechanical Trades

Try your hand at the Interactive Test bench to get an idea about the basics of the hydraulic systems that work in the big rigs. 

Collision Repair

Talk to an instructor, find out about the trade, its tools and equipment and career options and learn some air brushing techniques.

Electronics

Activity Stations simulating competition with use of tools, component assembly and testing

Construction Zone

Build a bird house, use the Tools of the carpentry trade to Build a Bird House – then take it home and see who roosts. Instructors there to help with tool usage, designs and provide a safe zone to work in.

InSpire Presentations

Presentation, videos and 3 hands on activities developed to engage and provide a new perspective on skilled trades and technology careers for Grade 6-10 students and their teachers.

Workplace Safety Contest

WorkSafe BC will have mock accident scenes set up for students to be guided through.  Guess the hazards and win a prize.

Trades Shop Tours

Tours – trade shops and kitchens – talk about programs, view our training aids, equipment, and see the various skills competitions.
