Greetings from the Chair

Hello,

Youry here. I am the chair of the Computer Science Department at Okanagan College.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for visiting our department website. Here you will find information about the wide array of computer science courses offered at Okanagan College, along with the latest news, grants, projects and applied research. You will also find resources for both potential and current students, as well as graduates who are seeking employment in the sector.

Okanagan College is located in one of Canada’s fastest-growing technology centres, with an ever-increasing number of start-ups and established firms doing business here every day. Okanagan College works closely with the provincial government, Accelerate Okanagan, and many other organizations to ensure the College is always on the cutting-edge. If you are thinking about pursuing a career in computer science, there has never been a better place and never been a better time than right now at Okanagan College.

If you are a potential student, I encourage you to explore the website and learn more about the wide array of computer science courses offered at Okanagan College. Some are part of our two-year Computer Information Systems diploma, others are part of our four-year Bachelor of Computer Information Systems degree.

A number of courses (COSC 111, 121, 211, 221, 222, 231), which are also part of the CIS and BCIS programs, prepare you for a more-theoretical computer science degree, offered at many universities. If you plan to transfer to a university, you may wish to check out these transfer courses available, and the College’s Associate of Science degree, which bridges to University. Courses like COSC 111 and 121 are also offered to students in Network and Telecommunications Engineering Technology. COSC 122 can be beneficial to anyone who wants to gain some basic knowledge of computing, and will have applications to many areas of study and work. COSC 180 also provides a gentle introduction to computer programming.

If you are interested in the courses and programs we offer, please follow this link to learn more about the application process and apply online.

If you are a current student, thanks for joining us. We hope you are enjoying your studies at Okanagan College and are learning a great deal from our team of experienced and qualified instructors. Take a moment to learn more about your courses and instructors on this site, and do not hesitate to let your instructors know if you have any questions. They will be happy to assist you.
