Deakin Collection - 3rd Floor

Dr. Barry Deakin Memorial Library College, Okanagan [University] College, Salmon Arm Campus
Dr. Deakin passed away in April 2000.  His wife, Dr. Andrea Deakin, formerly a Salmon Arm resident, retired teacher, and reviewer and critic of children's books since 1971, has been instrumental in the development, recognition, and promotion of children's literature and literacy in Canada.  Andrea has become one of the College's major benefactors through her generous donation of award-winning children's literature to the OC Library in Salmon Arm, in memory of her late husband, a staunch supporter of Andrea's work, and a promoter of children's literature in his own right.

The Deakin Collection now holds over 6,500 titles and as a rich and vibrant collection is still growing.  To expand the use of the collection institution-wide, in 2010, selected titles have been transferred to the Kelowna campus library.

The Deakin Newsletter of Children's Literature contains written reviews by Andrea Deakin and also gives further information about this collection.
