About the Viticulture Technician Diploma Program

The Viticulture Technician Diploma is designed to provide an academic balance of theoretical knowledge and hands-on practical experience. This prepares graduates to work as part of the vineyard management team to plan, develop, plant and maintain a vineyard for the production of quality wine.

Learn and work in one of the world's pre-eminent wine regions. The Okanagan Valley is the second largest wine region in Canada with over 200 wineries, 4000+ hectares of vineyard, myriad of varietals and limitless opportunity for growth.

  • The program is structured around the viticulture growing season, providing opportunities to develop and apply skills leading to sustainable practices within commercial vineyards. 
  • Students are exposed to the dynamic environment of viticulture and develops a range of skills and knowledge, including canopy management, pest control, pruning, training vines, sensory evaluation, occupational health and safety, and operating equipment.
  • A summer co-op term with a local employer provides students with a chance to gain relevant work experience in the industry, and build a comprehensive understanding of production practices and processes.
  • The Viticulture Technician Diploma is a “work-ready, transfer ready” option. It equips students with appropriate education for immediate employment as well as the opportunity to ladder into a baccalaureate degree. Students can exit after one year with a Viticulture Certificate or continue with year two, graduating with a Viticulture Technician Diploma.
