Jake joined the Public Affairs team in August 2008 in the position of student recruiter and event coordinator for the South Okanagan Similkameen. Having grown up in Penticton, Jake is a huge advocate for both post-secondary and the Okanagan Valley. In 2007 Jake graduated with her bachelor of Tourism Management from Thompson Rivers University. Upon graduation she joined the management team at the Penticton Ramada, where she worked in a variety of areas.

Jake has also volunteered with several organizations, including Skills Canada BC and the Cinderella Project in Penticton. The Cinderella Project helps students overcome financial and personal odds to attend their high school prom.

Tawnya was born in Vernon, attended high school in Regina and moved back to Vernon after graduation to attend Okanagan College, where she received an Associate Arts Degree.  She then moved to Vancouver to attend BCIT, where she received her diploma in Marketing Communications in 1998.  Since then, she has been working as an event coordinator at businesses around Vernon. Before being hired as the Recruiter and Events Coordinator for the North Okanagan Campus in Vernon in 2005 she was the Fund Development Officer at Vernon Hospice Society for five years and a Study Tour Assistant in International Education at Okanagan College for four years prior to that.

Leslie moved to the Okanagan from the lower mainland after spending over 15 years working in the post-secondary sector.  With a diploma from Capilano College in Media Resources, she brings a wealth of experience to her position in recruiting and events. In her previous job she worked as an advisor in the CIS department at a University College in the lower mainland where she also organized recruiting events. Leslie enjoys connecting people with the information they need, and is thrilled to be working at a true community college.

In her personal life, Leslie lives in Armstrong with her husband; they have three
dogs, three horses and numerous other animals on a hobby farm. Leslie is the president of the North Okanagan Sun Reiners, part of the province-wide Western Canadian Reining Association.    Ask Leslie about reining any time!

Christy joined the Public Affairs team in July 2006. As a recruiting and events coordinator her responsibilities include working within the community to promote all Okanagan College has to offer.  She loves working with potential students presenting them with the information they need to choose a desired path of study.  In addition, Christy works closely with the Manager of Recruitment, and Central Okanagan Regional Dean and faculty to coordinate events, conventions, trade shows, tours and presentations on behalf of Okanagan College.

Christy grew up in Kelowna, but just recently just moved back after completing her Tourism (Recreation) Management Degree at Malaspina University College and three years with Celebrity Cruises in the positions of youth program manager and staff event coordinating officer.  She loves to travel, enjoys the outdoors and is enjoying being back in the beautiful Okanagan.

Shelley Witzky is Okanagan College's Aboriginal recruiter for the North Okanagan and Shuswap-Revelstoke regions. Shelley is of Secwepemc (Shuswap) and German ancestry of the Adams Lake First Nation. She was raised on the Osoyoos First Nation with both Secwepemc and Okanagan cultural teachings.

After graduating from a private school, she attended OUC, then transferred to the University of Victoria to complete a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Anthropology. She continued her studies with the Institute of Indigenous Government in Vancouver, earning an associate in Indigenous Studies and Social and Economic Development. She has a background as diverse as her heritage having worked in the fields of archaeology, archives, Aboriginal tourism, employment counseling and environmental volunteerism. Shelley is a strong believer in education empowering Aboriginal people.
