Okanagan College Half Marathon

Race Day 2012: Sunday, April 1

Online registration is now open for the 2012 Okanagan College Half Marathon, 10 K and Relay.


The Okanagan College Half Marathon, 10 K and Relay is celebrating its 10th year in 2012. Be a part of this great community event that offers runners a fast and flat out-and-back course beginning at the KLO Road campus of Okanagan College. 

Brooks Athletics will be supplying race shirts for the 2012 event. Follow this link to a sizing chart to determine your size before registering online.

Half Marathon: 8:15 a.m. start

The half marathon (view the course map here) will cover 21.1 kms of Kelowna pavement, taking runners from the campus of Okanagan College along the Abbott corridor into City Park and will turn around atop the first hill on Knox Mountain. Runners will make their way back along the waterfront to Gyro Beach, exit Gyro and cross Lakeshore at Swordy Road, turn left on Casorso, right on KLO and finish at the KLO campus.



Prize money will be offered to the top three finishers in the male and female division of the half marathon. On each side, first place will receive $250, second place will take $150 and the third place finisher will receive $100. Click here for more info.

Half Marathon fees are:
Early bird until March 1, 2012 - $45
March 2 – 18 - $60
March 19 – 28 - $75
Race Day entry fee $80
 
Five water and energy replacement stations will be at the following locations for the half marathon and relay (10 km runners will use station 1 and station 5, which is approximately 8 km into the 10 km race). Portable washrooms will also be available at each of the following water stations:

1.      3.5 Km at the end of Lake Ave.

2.      7.5 Km on Okanagan Blvd. between Kingsway and Richter

3.      12 Km at the bottom of Knox Mt. (energy gels will be available at this station)

4.      15.5 Km at the end of Lake Ave. (same as station #1)

5.      19 Km at the entrance to Gyro Park (south end of Watt Road)
 

Team Relay Race: 8:15 a.m. start

For new runners or those looking for a shorter distance, the Okanagan College Half Marathon offers a team relay race that covers the same course as the half marathon (see map) and allows up to five runners to participate. Click here for more info.

Relay teams register online - team captains will register the team name and each member must download and complete a race waiver, available here. Relay team members each receive a race t-shirt if they register prior to March 1.

Relay fees are:

$125 per team until March 28

$150 per team on race day



Relay transition stations are at the following locations:


1.      The Sails Fountain – 4.5 Km

2.      Corner of Crowley Ave. and Ethel St. – 8.1 Km

3.      Entrance to Sutherland Park on Ellis St. near Central Ave. – 12.1 Km

4.       Entrance to Strathcona Park at Abbott St. and Strathcona Ave.. – 16.6 Km

10 km Race: 8 a.m. start

The Okanagan College Half Marathon series also offers a flat and fast 10 km course (check out the route) on race day. The 10 km race will take runners along the same first and last portions of the half marathon course but will turnaround in City Park. 10 K participants also receive a technical running shirt (shirt is guaranteed if registration received prior to March 1, 2012.) Volunteers

Any non-runners wishing to be involved with the race can lend their time as race volunteers or course marshals. There is no experience or certification necessary, volunteers do not direct traffic but instead assist in keeping runners safe while on the course. Please submit a VOLUNTEER FORM to get involved.
